Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!

A year ago today (July 21) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was released into the world, bringing to an end (at least for now) arguably the most beloved book series in the history of literature.  Looking back on all seven masterfully-crafted books, there are still so many questions to ask and answer and so many avenues to explore.  That is what ( Read more... )

Thanks for asking about this definition. I am constantly looking for ways to improve the text on the site to make it more clear, and I appreciate your question. The line does not have to be quoted or referenced anywhere; and in fact, it doesn't even matter if it is classified as a "Missing Moments" story anywhere by the author. If I can find some basis for the story in the actual canon, then I'll use it (if it's well-written and fits the other standards in terms of rating). So, for example, say there is a story about Ginny throwing away the diary in Chamber of Secrets. There may not be the actual quote from the book since she never talks about it herself, but I can certainly find it, from Tom's statement in the Chamber, and I'll go ahead and use the story, sticking in the quote in the header for the link. But I am rather fussy. Just today, in fact, I decided against using a good story that was from Ginny's point of view after Harry broke up with her after DD's funeral. It was cute and Tonks came up to her and they talked about how stupidly noble their men were. However, I didn't use it because nowhere in the actual book is there any indication that she talked to Tonks and the story has Ginny watching Harry talking to Ron and Hermione, when in fact, Scrimgeour waylaid Harry before he got to them and Harry had to practically fight him off before he made his way over to them. So, as far as I was concerned, it wasn't canon enough. Sometimes, though, finding the quote can be a bit of a stretch, for example, in stories about Harry and Ginny's engagement and/or wedding. There's no mention of it in the books except where the epilogue says "The five Potters crossed the barrier," thus proving that they were married and that all three of the children are theirs.

Anyway, what I usually suggest to authors who want to submit a whole list of work is to go ahead and send it in or give me a link to your complete group of stories. I will read them and snag the ones that fit and the ones that don't, I won't. I never mind reading stories, that's for sure. Warning in advance that it may take me a while, though. I try to update the site every 2-3 weeks, but as you can see it's now coming up on 2 months since my last newsletter and it will probably still be a few days before I get it up. My life is quite insane and posting the stories is a long, involved, process.
