So much cooking going on yesterday. And today, as I am fasting for the whole family, I get to enjoy NONE of the fab leftovers. Poor me.
I actually started the night before by prepping a blackberry-pomegranate sorbet. I used the same basic recipe from the orange-pineapple debacle and substituted blackberry preserves for the marmalade and pomegranate juice for the pineapple juice. I should have cut the sugar back to a half a cup, since the final product is intensely sweet, but all in all I'm pretty pleased. Being so sweet, it is too much on its own. I served it with some pieces of french toast and vanilla ice cream. It was fan-fucking-tastic that way.
I made a great pizza, using Cook's Country's
Sheet Pan Pizza recipe. Wow, it was good. It had one of the best textured crusts I have ever had out of a home oven. I think I would up the salt for flavor, but it was pretty damned good. I added some of my own toppings (Canadian bacon and green peppers on one end, and pepperoni, olives, and sauteed mushrooms on the other half), and the pizza held up really well.
I also made some
snickerdoodles, which I'm pretty happy with. These are arguably my favorite cookie (close second is a good oatmeal chocolate chip), so I'm pretty discriminating on these. I'm happy, but the final product could have been a little more moist. I used to make a great cookie out of a cookbook at my Mom's house, but I can't remember which book. I'll just have to pour over her collection when I go back to San Diego next time (that should be sometime in the next decade or so).
Three winners, not bad. Not to be confused with
wiener poopy.
