Her head is full of them: memories intruding like tongues of flame; brash, uninvited but all consuming, warming caverns of a soul long cooled.
She can still hear those words, the final words spoken. Apologies, explanations, but she can’t recall the voice. This pains her. She knows her memory is fading, knows it’s only a matter of time before it’s gone forever.
But it’s not yet and this is when she remembers her most; the world covered in blankets of red and gold, beautiful in its death.
Just like her. Like she’d always be. Forever young. Forever beautiful. Forever hers.
