It hurt to say those words…
To say them like he actually meant them was even more painful. It was especially so, as Derek watched the smiles disappear from Stiles’ face.
He’d wanted nothing more than to reach out; to take the words back. But he knew he couldn’t, Stiles’ safety was at stake.
The Alpha pack was closing in and he couldn’t have them picking up on Stiles’ scent. He wanted him long gone before they arrived. That’s why he’d spoken the harsh words.
But nothing prepared him for the devastation of watching his mate turn and walk away…
