Finally Snape had to do what he couldn't accomplish.
During the short joint Apparation, Draco thinks about that terrible night: the fighting, the blood, the screams. It was the stuff nightmares are made of, and yet he feels strangely detached from it.
What hurts him is the thought of his father; he recalls a conversation where Lucius coldly tells Mr. Borgin that Draco will be more than a thief, although unless his marks pick up, he can aspire to nothing more.
Draco laughs derisively as they arrive at Riddle House. Marks or no marks, he couldn't even be a murderer.
