Irma Pince runs an organized library: books must be returned to the shelves and garbage placed in the disposal bins.
She's therefore surprised to find the small Muggle square packet on the floor. Inside there's a rubbery circle which, after being pulled, stretches and resembles a glove finger.
She realizes it's a protection against dirty hands on valuable books. She tries it on: it's very wide and she wonders who has such fat fingers, but she can make it fit perfectly with magic.
Excited, she decides to ask Dumbledore to order more and make its use obligatory in the library.
