The instant when I first heard the news is emblazoned in my head. It's the same for most, I suspect. It is a snapshot moment that happens once in a great while. The photos in my mind never fade, though. I won't let them. They are preserved in tribute to those who aren't around to remember. I can barely believe it is so long ago. I saw some footage online yesterday and just like you the memories came flooding back.

I was at work in the lab and didn't see the images until that evening.

I felt numb!

I was petrified for my cousin who works in Manhattan but had no way to find out if she was okay.

I can only imagine the terror for people like you who lived close by.

History isn't so far in our past is it. :(

No, I think a generation has to pass before some true distance is achieved. For my parents, it was John F. Kennedy's assassination. For my grandmother it was Pearl Harbor. Every generation has their horrors to overcome. How they do it will speak to their legacy as a people.

Thank you for this, you were able to put a lot of my feeling into words much more eloquent than my own. I too remember the relief I felt when I found out both my father and brother were safe.

I hope we all make sure we do not forget.
