*I was researching possible locations for the meetup in London. Last time we had a meetup there we resided in the Premier Inn near Kings Cross station. We could possibly do that again, but I'm very willing to ( Read more... )

I was just looking at hotels, and the Premier Inn is rather expensive -- I'm getting €666/€695 for four nights (July 31 - August 4 or Aug. 1 - 5, respectively). However, the Arriva Hotel, which is only 500m away, offers the same period for €500 -- and breakfast is cheaper, too!

Dunno how that would work with meeting space, but it might be a consideration for accommodation only?

Thanks babe! I'll write it down and mention it in the next update.

There are a few other hotels listed at the bottom of the page which are all cheaper than the Premier Inn. Trouble is, central London hotels in August are ALL expensive. If it's a matter of finances, we'd be better off going to a less-centrally located hotel.

Also, even a 30-minute search has shown that the room contingent is already rather limited. *sigh*

You're completely right, hence me asking for suggestions in the comments. :)

I'll make sure to do some research myself, too, obviously! And as the Underground system in London is so fabulous, it doesn't really matter where we would end up anyway, as long as it's safe and fun to be :)

Seriously (regarding your eta)? That's disturbing, but we'll figure something out! We always do.

Well, at least as far as the best prices are concerned. If there's no upper limit you're willing to pay, rooms are plenty. :)

Trouble is, August is right in the middle of most European countries' summer holidays, so everybody and their aunt are doing trips -- and that's not counting all the aimed-at-students language-learning groups visiting the UK!

Agreed on the Underground system, though. (Note to self: unearth Oyster Card!)

I hope you don't mind me butting in, but it's quite possible to stay cheaply in central London if you don't mind a slightly more basic hotel. I've stayed in lots of Travelodges in London and they are perfectly decent in my opinion. There are no frills but the rooms are comfortable and pretty clean, and breakfast is cheap and plentiful.

I had a quick look at the Waterloo Travelodge for the dates you mentioned and you would pay 330 Euros for 4 nights.

I don't think it would do to host anything there - i don't believe they have meeting rooms and so on - but for people wanting to attend who wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise, it could help!

Nah, it's okay -- and that were just preliminary checks, anyway, not really with itention of booking. (Although I've learned in the meantime that the cheap flights are going fast, too ...)

I guess what I want/need right now is some kind of schedule, or programme, of what we'd be doing, where we'd meet up to do what etc. I'm at a bit of a loss regarding this atm, to be honest.
