MONDAY
Brushing his black hair out of his eyes and peering out the window in his Ravenclaw dormitory, Al could hear Scorpius sigh in frustration. "Sighing isn't going to make anything better," he told his longtime friend.
"I know, but I can't really scream at my father right now can I?"
"You could write him a letter," Al suggested, turning to face the bed that Scorpius was sprawled out on. His school robes were piled on the floor next to the bed and the Muggle jeans he was wearing with the black band tee looked way too tight for to be comfortable.
Scorpius laughed. "Right, because that would work. 'Dear Father, I don't want to have a Traditional Malfoy Coming of Age Celebration. Love, Scorpius.' I might as well add in a 'PS-I like blokes' just to make sure he really does disown me."
"I was just trying to help."
Scorpius sat up at this and shook his head, his pale blonde hair falling over one eye. "I know, Al, but you don't know my father like I do. Telling him that I don't want to have a party would be like telling him that I was moving away to Cambodia and never wanted to see him again."
"Well, that's a thought. Maybe you can just do that! Then you wouldn’t have to tell him you like blokes, or that you don't want a birthday party!"
Scorpius threw a pillow at Al and laughed. "You'd miss me too much."
Al let out a laugh. "You wish!"
"Oh you know you want me, Potter. Once you break up with that ridiculous toy of yours, you'll be all over this business." Scorpius ran his hands over the safety-pins covering the T-shirt that clung to his chest and Al snorted.
"Actually," Al said after he had finally stopped laughing, "I've been meaning to tell you," he moved toward the bed and stepped between his friend's legs, "I think you're sexy, and," he leaned down to whisper in Scorpius's ear, "I broke up with Derek last night."
Scorpius pushed Al away and laughed, "I was actually talking about your dildo, but you're a liar anyway."
"I'm telling the truth," Al protested, laughing, "well, at least the part about breaking up with Derek."
"What happened?"
"Apparently he was only dating me because he's got the hots for James. Ew."
Scorpius looked astonished. "Ew, indeed. Did you tell him you're brother's straight?"
"Of course I didn't," Al said in mock offence. "I believe I told him to follow his heart."
"Tell me again why you were sorted into Ravenclaw instead of Slytherin?"
Al laughed, "Because I'm smarter than you."
"Right, genius who's going to be murdered by his brother, come to the dungeons and help me pick out something awful to wear to go shopping with my grandfather tomorrow," Scorpius said, getting up off the bed and gathering up his things from their pile on the floor.
"Something worse than what you're wearing now?"
"Yes," Scorpius said with a smirk, "something much worse."
TUESDAY
Lucius pushed through the doors of Madam Malkin's, his robe flowing gracefully behind him. Madam Malkin smiled when she saw the familiar face but her words got caught in her throat at the sight of Scorpius trotting in behind him.
He was dressed in dark jeans that were barely held together with safety pins and duct tape, and a tight-fitting Union Jack T-shirt. He wore two different colored Converse shoes and black leather bracelets on each wrist. His hair was styled to fall over one eye and spelled bright blue for the day.
"Madam Malkin," Lucius said smoothly, "please do not give my grandson any more attention than he deserves. He seems to be going through a phase at the moment."
Madam Malkin diverted her eyes. "Of course, sir, it is good to see you again. May I ask what the occasion is?"
"Scorpius is coming of age this Thursday and his father would like to have a formal party for him on Friday. He is in need of new dress robes for the occasion."
"Indeed!" Madam Malkin agreed and motioned for Scorpius to step up onto her measuring block. "Do you have any specific style or color in mind?"
"Do you have anything in tie-dye?" Scorpius said in mock seriousness.
Lucius ignored him. "I think something in a basic black would be best for the occasion, something conservative."
Madam Malkin nodded to Lucius and went into her storage, pulling out a black dress robe with silver fasteners down the front. "How does this look, sir?"
At Lucius's nod, Madam Malkin helped Scorpius into the robe and began to pin. Scorpius sighed and resigned himself to be fitted. When she was finished Madam Malkin told the men that they could expect the alterations to be made within the day and they could pick up the robe early tomorrow morning. She asked them if they needed anything else, and then ushered them out of the shop, assuring them that the robe would be a perfect fit for Scorpius's Coming of Age Celebration.
Outside of the shop, Lucius took Scorpius by the arm and looked into his face with a stern gaze. "I know that you don't want to have this party, Scorpius, but your father needs you to have it. There was a war going on when your father came of age and he didn't get a celebration. You will behave and not ruin this for him. Do you understand?"
Scorpius looked sheepishly up at his grandfather. "Yes, sir."
Lucius smiled and let go of Scorpius's arm. "Good then, what shall we have for dinner?
WEDNESDAY
Scorpius was already lying in his normal place on Al's bed when the latter walked into his dorm room on Wednesday night. It had been a long day for both of them, and the week was only about to get longer.
"Scoot over," Al grumbled, hitting Scorpius in the side. He groaned and rolled over a few inches so that Al could lie down next to him.
They laid there in silence for a few minutes, almost sleeping, until there was a loud knock on the door. Both men groaned and Al rolled out of bed to answer the door.
"Oh my gods, Al, you've got to come hear this!" Zachary Boot practically yelled through the door. "David Goldstein is having sex with some girl in his room and he forgot to cast a silencing charm! Whoever she is, she's real loud!" With that, Zachary grabbed Al's arm and dragged him from the room.
After a few moments of hearing some girl scream David's name, Al was about to walk away, until he heard a smaller, male grunt, and a name, "Lily." Al's jaw dropped and he almost threw up on the floor. He turned around as fast as he could and ran back to his room.
"Scorpius, wake up," he said, shaking the bed with fervor. "We need to get out of here, right now."
"What are you talking about?" Scorpius groaned, rolling over and covering his face.
"I just heard my sister having sex with David Goldstein."
Scorpius uncovered his face and sat up. "You what?"
"I just-"
"No, don't say it again." Scorpius rolled off of Al's bed and put his shoes on. "We're leaving."
"Thank you," Al said, and they ran down the stairs.
When they got to the dungeons, Scorpius stopped and started looking around. "What are you doing?" Al asked.
"This is going to take more than just a night in my room to get out of your head," he said and motioned for Al to walk into the secret passageway that he had unveiled. "Plus, I'm still angry about this stupid Coming of Age Party I have to do on Friday, so we're going out."
Al didn't have time to argue. Scorpius grabbed his hand and pulled him into the tunnel and before he knew it, they were in Hogsmeade.
Scorpius took them to the Hogs Head "because it's cheaper and no one will see us," and they started drinking right away. Within a few hours they were drunkenly stumbling back through the tunnel to Hogwarts.
"You're the best friend ever," Al said, leaning on Scorpius for support. "I mean it. You didn't have to get me drunk but you did and that makes you're the best."
"No," argued Scorpius, trying to hold up both himself and Al. "You're better. You put up with me and you're cute." Scorpius slapped his hand over his mouth, realizing what he just said.
Al laughed. "You're cute-er."
Finally, they reached the end of the tunnel and snuck down the hall to the Slytherin dormitory. "I can't go to my room tonight or I might see Lily," Al said, worried.
"You can stay with me," Scorpius told him. "I promise not to molest you."
"Okay," Al laughed, and they made their way into Scorpius's room. They both climbed into bed fully clothed and laid facing each other. They were silent for a few moments until Al whispered, "Happy Birthday, Scorpius" and leaned to kiss his friend softly. Scorpius kissed him back and they continued to kiss sloppily until they both drifted off to sleep.
THURSDAY
It wasn't an uncommon occurrence for Scorpius to wake up in bed with another man's lips on his own. It was, however, something altogether unusual for those lips to belong to his best friend, Albus Potter.
Scorpius pulled his face away slowly and then changed his mind. He kissed his friend slowly. A grin made its way across Al's face and he whispered, "Good morning" between kisses.
Pulling away, Scorpius studied Al's face. "I knew you wanted me," he said, poking Al in the ribs.
Al jumped and then laughed, "Way to ruin the moment."
"Hey," Scorpius said, "it's my birthday. I do what I want."
Al rolled out of bed and stood up. "Speaking of birthdays," he said, and reached underneath Scorpius's mattress, "I got you a present."
Scorpius looked at Al inquisitively. "You hid my birthday present in my room."
"Of course I did," Al said matter-of-factly, "I knew you would search my room when I wasn't there, so I hid it here, where I knew you wouldn't look." He grinned and handed a small envelope to Scorpius. "Now open it."
Scorpius took the envelope and opened it carefully. He took out the piece of paper that was inside and read it aloud. "This receipt is good for one free tattoo from Steve's Tattoo Emporium," Scorpius jumped up and hugged Al, "We're getting tattoos! Thank you so much! My dad is going to flip! I'm so excited!"
After a few good moments of thank you snogging, Scorpius pushed Al toward the door. "Go back to your room and get ready. We're skipping class today to get tattoos." Al tried to protest, but Scorpius put his hand over Al's mouth. He pointed to himself and said, "Birthday. Now go," and pushed Al out the door.
FRIDAY
Scorpius had officially had his cheeks kissed and pinched by every single woman on both his mother's and his father's sides of the family by the time Al finally showed up.
"Sorry I'm late," he said, hugging Scorpius, "Mom had to drag Dad along. She was going mental about how he and your dad should spend more time together or something." Al shrugged. "You look nice," he added, trailing his index finger down the silver fasteners on Scorpius's new dress robes.
"Thanks, but this costume is driving me mental. It's so hot!" Scorpius fanned himself with his hands and then looked around carefully. "I think we have time to get away for a quick snog if you want. There's supposed to be some traditional toast by my father in about ten or fifteen minutes and then a dance or something." He motioned to the garden behind him and Al smiled.
"You're such a rebel Scorpius Malfoy," Al laughed and they stepped carefully into the garden. Scorpius lead the way, pulling Al behind him by the hand until they reached a small fountain. The men sat on the bench next to it and began kissing in earnest. "Wait," Al interrupted, "does this mean we're dating?"
Scorpius shrugged, "Does it matter?"
Al shrugged and kissed Scorpius again. They kissed for a long time, tongues entwining and hands wandering. The longer they kissed the more heated it got. Suddenly, Scorpius pushed Al backward and climbed on top of him, unfastening the dress robes his friend was wearing. Al's hands came up automatically and began undoing the silver fasteners on Scorpius's robes.
Both men were almost completely devoid of their robes when Draco walked out of one of the garden paths. "Scorpius, there you are-" he began, but his words caught in his throat at the sight in front of him.
"Shit!" Scorpius said, crawling off of Al and re-fastening his robes. "Father, I-it's not what it looks like."
Draco turned to Al and said coldly, "I would like to talk to my son, please, in private."
Al dropped his head. "Yes, sir." He picked up his dress robes and walked down the path that Draco had just come from, redressing himself.
"Father-" Scorpius began, but Draco cut him off.
"I don't want to hear it," he said. "I don't care what you do on your own time, but at this party, at my house, I don't want to see you anywhere near that boy. Do you understand me?"
"But Father-"
"Do you understand me?"
Scorpius looked into his father's angry face and knew that he wasn't going to win. "I understand, sir."
"Good," Draco said. "Now we're late for my speech, so I want you up by the house and looking happy. We have guests who came to see that you are a man and I won't have you disappointing them." With that, Draco turned in a fashion he must have learned from his father and stalked back up to the house, dress robes flowing gracefully behind him. Scorpius sighed and followed suit.
After what seemed like a very insincere speech by his father, Scorpius was required to start the dancing off by dancing with his mother. She was just about the only family member that Scorpius could even attempt to like at the moment, so it was to his benefit that it was her.
"You look beautiful tonight, Mother," Scorpius told her as they began to dance in time with the waltz being played by the orchestra that Draco had hired.
"You look quite dashing yourself, son," she told him, and they continued to dance in silence. Eventually Astoria spoke again. "Are you and Al dating now?"
Scorpius choked. "Why would you say that?"
Astoria smiled. "I saw the two of you sneaking away to the garden, and then I saw the look on your father's face when you returned. I can guess what happened in between."
Scorpius let out a nervous laugh, his mother always was one for correct inferences. "I don't know if I'd say we're dating, but there's definitely something there," he told her truthfully.
"Well," his mother whispered, "it's my turn to speak next. So if there's anything you need me to say…"
"Father doesn't want me to have anything to do with Al anymore," Scorpius told her as the song came to an end.
Astoria hugged her son and said, "You leave your father to me," before walking up to the stage where the speeches were to be given. She looked over the crowd and smiled. "My son, Scorpius, is a pouf." Everyone gasped and grew silent as she continued. "Anyone who's the least bit observant could have called that one about fifteen years ago when he first tried to put on my makeup and he actually did it correctly." The crowd laughed. "But in all seriousness, I am very proud of my son. He may be different than his father and I expected him to be, but I wouldn't trade him for the world." The crowd applauded. "And so, it is with this with this love for my son that I have to call him unto the dance floor one last time to dance with another very special young man. Albus Potter, will you please come dance this next dance with my son? I think he might love you." The crowd cheered again as Al made his way to the dance floor.
When the music started again, Scorpius grabbed Al's hand and pulled him close. Al kissed Scorpius on the cheek and whispered, "This isn't so bad for a stupid Coming of Age Celebration, is it?"
Scorpius let his eyes travel the room. The stars were shining down on the few couples who had started to join them on the dance floor. Off in one corner, Harry Potter was wiping a tear of joy from his wife's cheek as they watched their son dance. In another corner, Astoria berated Draco for his insensitivity and forced him to watch the dance. Everyone around him was happy, the stars were shining, and it was a beautiful night.
Scorpius looked back at Al and smiled. "No, it's not bad at all."
