I think it sounds great, and didn't notice any glaring errors. My only concern is the age requirement, I have no idea what the legalities are, but is it a good idea to allow kids where there is NC-17 fic/art? If the members post at their own journal and do a fake cut, will they be protected by the age requirement statement on their own journals? I'd hate to have someone get in trouble over this.
I borrowed the don't ask, don't tell policy from some other fests. I'm not 100% sure what the legalities of it are, but given that age policies are essentially impossible to enforce, my understanding is that not pretending to be able to keep people out reduces one's liability. (i.e. if we try to do it and fail, we're liable for more trouble than putting the reposibilitiy on the readers to police themselves). Given that the way most comms enforce their age policy is by accepting statements from users saying "I am over 18" without any way to tell if they are simply lying, putting the burden on the readers to police themselves is the only thing that makes sense.
That's true, there isn't a way to really know if someone is being honest about their age, and it should be left to personal responsibility. I should have checked other fests age statement before I posted. :)
I think the dates are good. I'm glad that the deadlines are after all the holiday festing is over. I also love that you've included all different catagories of fanfic instead of limiting it to slash.
Yeah, my main concern on the dates was that we not conflict with all the many swaps and challenges. I have four stories myself I'm writing for various swaps so I know how it goes!
It sounds great, and I fully agree with the "don't ask don't tell" policy about age, but I would perhaps make it a rule to add "the author and community are not responsible for underage readers" or something to that accord to the disclaimer of R/NC-17 stories as well, just to be safe.
All we have to do then is finish filling in the prompt table and we can ping the newsletters and comms so people can start eyeing what card they want to take...
This looks like a really good fest! I'd be interested in participating, but I'm going to be incredibly busy in the near future. If I don't claim a card, but manage to write something, what would be your attitude to receiving it?
I couldn't see if you'd posted a date by when you want the responses done by-has one been set?
We'll start taking claims on October 1st, but to give people time to work up their stories, the community will open for posting of stories starting on February 16th 2007 and will remain open until March 31st.
We figured that way we'd be after all the holiday fic swaps, and we'd start right after the rush of Valentine's Day. Would that timing work for you, you think?
