I'm impressed by your believable versions of Neville and Draco. I like that Draco isn't fully likable, that he retains his haughtiness and flaws, but that his "darkness" is so much more nuanced and plausible than in canon. (That he would find the reality of the Dark Lord so much less palatable than his childish fantasies of the Dark Lord -- that makes sense. And I love the lines about a) his realizing that not liking someone is not the same as hating them and wanting to hurt them, and b) how he knows himself well enough to know he needs an audience ( ... )

I know, it was slightly ridiculous saying it was pre-pre-slash, but I wanted to warn people in advance, so as not to disapoint those who were hoping for smut (or even a simple kiss!).

Thanks for reading in spite of my silly warning. I'm very glad you liked it! You should give Neville/Draco a chance, I've read some lovely stories!

Thank you mystery author! This was so great, I loved what you did with the prompts! Snape's death hit me so hard (he was my all time fav char), but imagining Draco and Neville remembering him like this really touched me and makes me feel better about it. This was so well-written and I loved the little flashbacks. And even though I usually go for the NC-17 stories this was so perfect in its subtlety that I didn't mind at all. I loved the last scene with Snape when he almost touches Draco but doesn't. The characters felt both in-character and realistic in a way they aren't in the books :D Thank you!!

I'm glad you liked it! I'm sorry about the lack of smut - or romance for that matter - but I just couldn't get the story to work any other way.

Snape was also one of my favourite characters. (I had hoped against hope he wouldn't die in the last book.) I had originaly planned to write more Snape, but realised that he's very hard to write and I wasn't up to it! But I hope I at least managed to show a more humane side to him, as the kind of person someone could appreciate and respect and love.

It was a pleasure writing this story, and it was all due to your thought provocing prompts.
