"Lily," Remus whined, tugging at the waistband of the offending kilt.

Lily turned and smiled brightly. "It looks perfect," she said, giving his uncomfortable stance a swift appraisal.

"Sirius doesn't have to wear one," Remus said, with a pointed glare through the window. Sirius saw his look and waved.

"He will if he carries on with that." Sirius, it seemed, was engaging some form of intense battle against James and Peter involving a considerable quantity of grass. "I don't know either," Lily said, catching Remus' raised eyebrows.

"Isn't he nervous?" Remus was incredulated.

"Probably," Lily commented, "But it's James."

"It's a kilt, Lily!" Remus exploded after a momentary silence.

"Some women find them sexy. You might pull!" Lily cocked her head to the left.

There was a sudden yell from outside. Sirius, apparently, had proved victorious.

"I'd better check he hasn't killed my fiancé." Lily gave a cursory glance through the window.

Remus stayed silent, wondering if there were any ordinary trousers in the house and if he had time to resize them properly. Staring into the mirror on the wall he tugged at the corner of the kilt. It's a skirt, he couldn't help thinking. He was wearing a goddamn skirt. Staring into the mirror he tried to appear at least vaguely sexy. He managed, somehow, to look supremely uncomfortable. There was laughter from outside. He hoped, at least, that no one would enquire as to the state of his undergarments.
