Oh, so this morning, it was incredibly misty and foggy and I was loving it, so I went into the backyard and let my cats out so they could follow me around. And so I was deterring them from going after squirrels in the backyard and picking black bell peppers and a fire orange one when I stood up and turned and saw a giant large bird sweeping through the fog and heading for the neighbor's tree. It landed in there, but on the other side so I couldn't see it. And all I could think was "Holy shit! That thing looked like a crane!"

It had the long serpentine neck. The long legs. Long beak. Just enormous creature!!! But cranes don't live in California! And the only north american crane is the Whooping Crane.

No, the bird I saw was not a duck or a pelican or some very obese pigeon. It was very much a crane. How odd! I spent ten minutes waiting for another glimpse of it, but I suspect it was perfectly content to stay hidden inside the tree.

Couldn't be an Egret as I don't think this is their climate right now. Maybe a stork??? I don't know! But it was awesome.
