Book 4 was the first book where I found myself super surprised. The idea that Moody wasn't really Moody and was even never occurred to me. The idea that Voldemort wasn't trying to kill Harry in the tournament but actually wanted him to win also never occurred to me. This is probably part of why book 4 is my favorite.

Yes, but pleasantly surprised. It was an awesome story! The whole graveyard scene with Harry and the resurrection of the Dark Lord was amazing! David Tennant as Barty Crouch, Jr was genius!

The perfection of BC Jr's equidistant hatred for Aurors and lapsed Death Eaters. It works so beautifully, it's hard to wrap my head around it. Stunning.

That is one beautiful bit of characterization.

'Moody' being an imposter.

Also, actually, the whole tournament. I found (and still do) it peculiar that there seemed to be actual danger to the participants during. I understand that there should be a bit of a risk involved, but many of the tasks seemed to put the participants in mortal danger. How could all the parents go along with this?

Also the bit with the twins and Ludo Bagman and the fool's gold. I just never caught the hints.

Moody not being Moody. I expected surprises with the tournament and I expected Sirius to appear at some point and it was building to something relating to Voldemort happening but Moody threw me.

The Moody Reveal for sure.

I mean again, I should have seen it. But with all the emphasis on how Arthur Weasley knew him and dumbledore trusted him, It really caught me by surprise that he wasn't the Real moody. and also a Death Eater.

The fight between Harry and Ron too. because up to now while Ron have had his issues, he and Harry had never fought like that before.

The Moody thing, so much. Voldemort's return, I wasn't expecting it. Cedric's death either.

That Barty Jr. was a bad guy after all surprised me a lot. Jo did the complex thing of "gullible teen gets mixed with the wrong crowd and ends up wrongfully imprisoned" - and then turned it on its head: "LOL no, his asshole of a father was right all along and the guy was a Death Eater. Oh, he's still a gullible teen, he's still sad, his dad is still an asshole, but he's ALSO an unrepentant murderer."
