She tried barricading the door, but it was just no use. He was coming. He would kill her, and he would kill her son. In her final tears of desperation, the redhead kissed her only son's forehead softly.

And then she saw Him. All of her attempts at blocking the door were shoved aside with a lazy flick of His wand, and Lily was made completely vulnerable. She placed Harry in his crib, praying that He only wanted her. But she knew that couldn't have been the case.

"Not Harry, not Harry, please not Harry," she pleaded.

"Step aside, you silly girl... stand aside, now," Lord Voldemort scoffed at her.

Maybe, she thought, if she went instead of Harry... "Not Harry, please no, take me, kill me instead--" but she was interrupted by His harsh voice. "This is my last warning--"

No, she had to keep fighting. Damn it, if she was going to fight for something before she died, it would be the one thing she loved more than anything in the world. "Not Harry! Please... have mercy... have mercy... Not Harry! No Harry! Please -- I'll do anything --"

"Stand aside. Stand aside, girl!" he yelled at her.

Lily barely saw any of it happening, it happened so fast. She kept screaming to save Harry as he lifted his wand and cast the spell, but then nothing.

Nothing.

But there was light. Lily felt the warmth flood back to her fingertips as she poked her head out of a sheer, misty sheet. What happened? Was this Heaven? Did she die, just like her husband?

No. If this were Heaven, then her husband would be there, waiting. This had to be Hell.

The redhead slowly lifted herself from the Veil, looking around with a confused expression on her face. And, for the first time, she heard soft voices from the other room. She had to follow. She needed to. But she couldn't be seen.

Slyly, Lily followed the few out of the Department of Mysteries. No, this couldn't be Hell. How was this possible? Why was she still alive? It was unexplainable to her, but she had one mission. If she was here, her husband would have to be here. Lily knew what she had to do.
