The Date
"Josh! Are you ready to leave?" Hannah called from her bedroom, pinning up the front of her hair. She heard mumbling from across the hall and went to Josh's room to see what was going on. "What's wrong honey?" she asked when she saw him frowning.
"I can't pick." The small boy looked at the array of toys thrown about his room. "You said only one."
Smiling, Hannah bent down next to her son and hugged him tightly. "I only said one because Tara already has a bunch of toys at her flat. You can take two if you want."
At this, her little boy's eyes lit up and he grinned, picking up a box with a set of blocks inside, and a toy soldier to put in his bright blue bag. "Okay Mummy."
"Alright, now come on, Tara's going to be here any minute." She smiled again and took his hand in hers and picked up his bag, leading him to the living room. Turns out she was exactly right about the time, as just as they entered the living room, there was a knock at the door and Hannah opened it to find Tara, their young neighbor standing there with a smile.
At the sight of her, Josh grinned and ran to her, holding out his arms to be picked up. "Tara!" he cried.
"Hey Joshie!" she exclaimed, spinning him around a few times before stopping and looking at Hannah. "Wow, Hannah! You look amazing!"
"Thanks," Hannah smiled, smoothing out her knee length black strapless dress. There was a yellow ribbon around the middle and she straightened the bow before checking herself all over, making her sure conservative jewelry and hair were all in place. "I'm going out to a dinner and a play with a guy from school."
The young woman smiled and took the bag from where Hannah had set it on the floor. "We'll you look like a knock out. Good luck!"
With that and a wave and kiss from Josh, Hannah shut the door and went to slip on her black strappy heels and wait for Zach
