Bi-Weekly Topic: Piece of Me

Mar 01, 2008 21:02

Who? Leo Black, Cordy Diggory, and Sinclair Montgomery
What? A typical morning in Milan
When? When Cordy and Leo are nearly twenty-one so twenty-two years after grownhp6words
Why? Because Oh My God that Britney's Shameless

"I have a drug problem. An intervention is planned," Leo says casually as he leans against the counter sipping his pumpkin juice. He smirks over at Sinclair who is skimming the paper that Leo finished reading a few moments before.

"Now you've spoiled the ending for me," Sinclair sighs dramatically. On the front page of the tabloid there is a photo of Leo with the bolded headline:

Leo's Friends Concerned About His Drug Abuse.

"That photo makes my arse look fabulous though."

(you want a piece of me) I'm Mrs. 'Extras! Extra! This just in' (you want a piece of me) I'm Mrs. 'She's too big, now she's too thin'>

"All photos make your arse look fabulous," Cordy points out as she pauses to brush a kiss on Sin's cheek before taking the paper from him. Sinclair is used to not being able to finish the paper in the mornings. Between the two of them they make it impossible to concentrate. "Oh Heroin? I thought it was Cocaine a couple of weeks ago."

Leo shrugs as looks at the picture on the front of the paper. It was a Muggle tabloid and he was often on the front pages these days. It had taken him just over a year in the business before he became a known name. It had taken a few months after that before he became known simply by his first name. Fame was fleeting in the modeling industry, but he was working it to his advantage.

"Heroin is more chic this week, clearly."

"You don't have to encourage their rumors," Sinclair points out, but Leo just laughs as he lights his third cigarette of the morning. "I'm serious."

"I know you are, but I'd love to hear your theory on how I encourage their rumors. Please enlighten me." He takes a long drag on the cigarette and casts a curious look at his boyfriend and girlfriend. Cordy won't jump in the middle of it. She often finds their morning debates intriguing to watch, but she saves her commentary until she's had more caffeine.

Leo's nearly twenty-one and considered one of the leading male fashion models. His premiere line is close to being revealed at London's Fall Fashion week. In his business you are considered an old pro before you are even considered legal to drink during New York's fashion week. Not that models are carded. Alcohol and drugs are readily available. Hell, they are even encouraged if it will have you seen in the right places wearing the right things. After all models are selling an image. He's been building and selling his since he was sixteen.

He feels terribly old sometimes.

"Perhaps releasing a statement calling it rubbish? Give an interview that sets the record straight. A full night's sleep before you go out in public wouldn't hurt either. You have dark circles under your eyes."

"Do not."

"You do."

"It's photoshopped in."

"Leo, he means you have them now. Here. In front of us." Cordelia's sunny smile makes it impossible for Leo to snap at her. Instead he pouts. He does look tired, but he's busy. Life is a constant whirl of motion as he prepares to launch his line. He's at the peak of his career after all. It's not like Cordy and Sin aren't busy with their art careers. They should understand the lack of sleep when things are blowing up in a positive way.

"Oh, look, you made the Quibbler," Cordy arches an eyebrow as she skims the article. "Oh, oh I suspect your family will not be pleased they printed this."

"Another editorial on how I'm threatening to expose us to the public? Wait, no that was the Prophet."

"No."

Sinclair takes the paper from her to read it. The frown on his face suddenly turns into a look that tells Leo he is contemplating headdesking.

"Oh for Godric's sake, what is it?"

"You."

"Yes? What about me?"

"They printed some of your photos as a way of advertising the launch of your clothing line." Sinclair offers the paper to Leo who chooses to read it over Sin's shoulder. One look at which pictures they used and he groans.

"Selene mentioned giving some free publicity, but I assumed she would print the photos of me with my clothes on."

"This is one way to ensure that your show is packed," Cordy manages to say before she dissolves into giggles. "Sorry, it's just...well, it is definitely publicity?"

"My family reads this paper!"

"As does mine," Sinclair groans, shaking his head. Cordy laughs harder. "It's not funny."

"Honestly, the both of you are stark raving mad. You mock the false stories of drugs and other rubbish in those papers, and you fear genuine photos from Leo's career. How does that make any sort of sense?"

"OUR FAMILY READS THE QUIBBLER." They say in unison which makes their girlfriend laugh harder. They'll be lucky if she doesn't turn the paper into an art piece for the villa.

Sinclair leans back in his chair and stares at the papers that are on top of the kitchen table. Every few days it seems to be new rumors, new exclusive stories, and Leo writes it off as part of the business. Part of his way to ensure his dream continues to come true.

"It's only a bit longer and then I'll retire from modeling and focus solely on the clothing line. Hang in there just a bit longer, loves, please?" He kisses them both before walking away to rinse his glass. He's due at the studio for a shoot for Yves Saint Laurent, and can't afford to be late.

"They all want a piece of you," Sinclair points out, and gets a genuine Leo Black smile in return.

"Merlin, I hope so. As long as they do I'll have a career. I'll see you when I'm done for the day. It will be late." He practically bounces out the door to where his motorbike awaits. In a little under five years he's gone from being uncomfortable with the attention his career put on him to milking it for all it's worth. He's learned, after all, that as much as they want a piece of him, he needs a piece of them as well.

That's just the way the industry works.
