Who? Remus Lupin and Sebastian Savage
What? First round of werewolf interrogations
When? Now in the
grownhp6words timeline
Why? Because it's their job to investigate what happened
Bastian has read the report that Rhia filed regarding her interview with Scorpius Malfoy. He's watched the pensieve as well, twice. He's torn between thinking the kid looks guilty as fuck, or is just smart enough to protect himself until they have more to go on. There isn't any reason for the Werewolves to trust the Aurors or the Ministry. Thanks to Heim running his mouth they have every reason to believe that they will be treated like second class citizens. All the work that Hermione Weasley and Lucius Malfoy have put into progress has been set back easily ten years thanks to one bigot with a thirst for power.
Now they are investigating the attack on said bigot and the poor kid who got caught in the crossfire. Nothing pisses Bastian off more than dealing with a case where a kid has been hurt. He's seen it all in his years on the job, but he can never really steady himself with it. It's not just another job. He can't think of a single Auror who can look at a case where a kid has been attacked, cursed, or killed as just another job. They are the most innocent of victims, and the ones that society as a whole should be protecting.
When it came time to pass out interview assignments, it became clear they were going to have a problem with finding people who could be objective. Not so much in doing their jobs, but making the public feel secure that everything was done in finding out who was responsible for the attacks on the full moon. Bastian trusted Teddy, Dora, Ron and Gideon to handle any of the interviews, but he could understand why they would need to step back from Remus, Maisie and Scorpius. The only way to give the impression things are being done fairly was to not give the public any reason to pick apart at their investigation.
Bastian sent an owl to Remus asking him to meet him at the park just a few blocks away from Grimmauld. He figured this was neutral territory. He didn't feel comfortable conducting the interview in his dad's school. He doubted Remus would feel all that comfortable conducting it in the office his wife and son worked at. The key to getting information is ensuring that your subject is comfortable enough to actually talk to you.
When watching the Malfoy interview pensieve he realized that Malfoy wasn't comfortable at all. That was why he brought a lawyer with him. He may have given the illusion he was at ease, but that was only because someone was sitting in the chair next to him. He really hoped that Remus wasn't going to feel the need to bring a lawyer with him too. If so? They were going to have to go back to the interrogation room at the Ministry and do it formally. Bastian was always professional, but he really wanted to keep this interview as relaxed as possible.
If Remus knew something he wanted him to feel comfortable enough to share it. Of course if his father had talked to him chances were he had been warned not to let his guard down around Bastian. He couldn't help that in situations like this, Severus and Bastian just couldn't trust the other's tactics. Probably because their tactics were a bit similar.
Taking a seat on the park bench, he waited for Lupin to arrive. He hadn't bothered bringing a quill. His pensieve would tell him everything he needed to know, but really he had an excellent memory without even needing to view the pensieve.
