Objects cut through the air, so precisely and with such skill that they can almost be heard before the music drowns out the soft sounds. Her body moves fluently, her hands tossing and turning creating the illusion that she is indeed one with the fans she has become so accustomed to dancing with. Her audience is small, consisting only of her classmates. Dress rehearsals are just as, if not more crucial than the performances themselves. That is why she always puts her whole soul into it every time she dances. For Satsuki there is simply no other way. She sometimes wonders if Maia does the same thing, or if her Okaa-san had done the same thing.
Another turn and she’s lost…lost in her movements and completely oblivious to her surroundings. Life is not a factor where she is. Time has no meaning and her burdens cease to exist in the world that belongs to her and her fans.
She can feel it coming before it hits her. No, not here! Naively she closes her eyes like she used to when she was a child. Not here! Never here! You are not allowed here! The first image flashes behind her eyelids it is quick and almost blurry. She finds it unnerving. Never before have one of her premonitions been so vague, but then again never has she fought one as hard as she is now. Just keep dancing, she repeats over and over to herself praying that it will go away. Fate however has different plans as the next image hits her hard and fast, so fast that she loses her balance falling for what seems like forever before her body connects with the stage. The gasps from her peers go unheard as her body succumbs completely to the vision-
Pale moonlight descends over the field of Sakura trees. The sight is quite beautiful as the blossom seem to glow as inch by inch the moon continues to rise. A shrieking baby breaks the night’s silence and cause the ground to begin to shake. The cry is so strong that the blossoms begin to fall from the trees like rain. It’s only a mater of moments before the now bare trees start to whither. Death is the only word to describe it as they creak with seemingly old age. It quite literally sounds like bones breaking while the branches snap and bend, creating the illusion of a archway that goes on for miles.
The silence takes over again as the wind howls through the arches, the petals accumulating together and floating serenely through the open path the trees have formed.
Just like the game ‘follow the leader’ that Muggle children play, the scene being played out follows the petals quickly. Looping, ducking, and dancing through the wind they seem happy, almost at peace to be free from their imprisonment among the trees.
Their journey through the barren wood feels like it will never end. Then suddenly the night breaks and there is a light so bright it is blinding. The petals start to circle a shadowed figure. They are spinning at such a high speed that it would cause anyone to sway with dizziness.
Her vision carries her closer and the shadows begin to lift. Two eyes the exact same color and shape as Suki’s penetrate her with such a force it feels like they are staring into her soul…
Gasping for breath, Suki finally returns to the realm of reality, only one word slips through her lips before she is off running as fast as she can out the doors of the dance studio and to the train station. She’s never acted upon one of her premonitions and never intended to, but this time it’s different…this time she knows exactly what she needs to do….
“Okaa-san.”
