So, I'm using the Quidditch Sweater pattern
here (the one at bitchnmoan.net), and all is going well, until I get to these instructions:
Shape neck: Work first 44 sts; work next 12 sts and place on holder for neck; work rem 44 sts. Working each side separately, cast off 4 sts at neck edge on next 2 rows. Cast off 2 sts at neck edge on following 2 rows. Dec 1 st on neck edge every other row 7 times. Work even until 26 ½" from the beg.
It's the stuff that's bold and underlined that's a problem for me: how do I bind off stitches at the end? I'm knitting along, and I bind off 4 stitches at the neck edge--the beginning of the row, then I turn and knit the next row and cast off 4 stitches at the neck edge--which is the end of the row? But then I have to add a new ball of yarn and that can't be right. Can anyone help?
I was thinking of using the "bias bind off", a.k.a. the "sloped bind off", which is in a knitting book my roommate has, and is also explained
here (scroll, it's about halfway down). Would that fix all my problems, and make for a very nice neck edge to pick up stitches from?
Any and all help is appreciated! Thanks lots Robin
