Color cards and color recs. HW is often low or out of stock in colors so think ahead when ordering. These are the 05/06 color cards. Elann's Highland Wool is worsted weight, 100% wool, 109yds/50g ball.
As usual, my scanner has a tendency to wash everything out, especially the greens. I went outside to double check all the colors and took pictures as well.
These are a bit bigger than the scans, and still not perfect.
Hufflepuff:
Black (0500)
Yellow: Daffodil (7721) for a lighter, pure yellow; Freesia (7725) for a darker, richer, more golden yellow.
Gryffindor:
Gold: Butterscotch (1150) for a more "gold" yellow (I prefer this one); Allspice (3103) for a yellow with a bit of orange in it.
Red: Ruby (2055) for a rich, true red good for SS/CoS; Oxblood (2124) for a dark burgundy leaning towards the brown family in bright sunlight (this is my favorite); Claret (2020) is another burgundy which I don't like nearly as well. It's lighter than Oxblood, and much more purple, fitting its winey name. Most of the other reds are far too bright.
Slytherin:
Silver: Light Grey Heather (0401). There's no pearl grey, and this heather is the lightest the greys go in HW. However, it doesn't have any oatmealy quality, so even though it's a heather and a bit dark for SS/CoS scarves, it's quite good for the later films.
Green: Calypso Green (1430) and Sherwood Forest (1440) are both blue/greens rather than yellow/greens, but neither is teal. Sherwood Forest is darker than Calypso Green and is my preferred green. There's no olive green suitable as Tuscany Green is just too yellow.
Ravenclaw:
Bronze: Russet (3729) for a reddish coppery brown; Golden Bark (1160) for a deep golden brown.
Blue: Soooo many blues....
Medium blue: Royal Blue (1680) is a bright (not too bright), true blue which I'd consider for SS/CoS scarves. Sapphire (1715) a deep blue that's very purple. It's not purple, but it's much much redder than the other selections. Deep Blue Sea (2583) is a slightly teal blue which is still unmistakeably blue.
Dark blue: Admiral Blue (1297) is a navy blue. Ink (2762) is the darkest blue available and in the same red/blue family as Sapphire but couldn't even remotely be mistaken for purple; it's my personal pick. Dark Indigo Heather (0638) is in the navy family. The blue in it is actually darker than that in Admiral Blue, but the heathering makes it look a bit lighter than its base color.
