(I actually had to write this down by hand because I felt like my fingers were too rubbery and couldn't type well.)

This is gorgeous, amazing, and everything. You captured music--punk music with all its anger and hope. Most of all, you put Snape and Evans in a culture that's familiar and touching to us realistically, but managed to cloak it with the discussion on Wizarding views. Evans was particularly raw, so brutish and forceful, but also so proud and happy. They make quite a pair!

There are so many lines that struck me, especially these: "But when he was dressed in his Muggle clothes - his Muggle costume -" and "His clothes were like an actor's, helping him to step mentally into his role." PERFECT. You describe so much, of Snape wearing his clothes and ideas like skin, shedding them when the time comes, putting on his clothes and his music for the night.

"This role was his heritage. It was his father's legacy. He tried to shift into it when his mother's legacy felt too keening to bear. He turned from reason and law, from tradition and commandment and from caution and plan. He kicked them all in the teeth; smashing control and logic; thawing the cold of reasoned, measured, hideous actions with feeling and anger, even rage of helplessness. If he had been his father's son alone, he would have been what he now feigned."
I love how you slipped the demands of both cultures here, neatly wrapping them up with the mention of Snape's family.

And the end. Oh, the end. Regulus and Sirius, music and connections. YES. When I read that part, I heard myself take a sharp breath and found I was shaking. AH, the feeling is amazing and rich.

THANK YOU. I can't give this fic justice, but it is wonderful, absolutely more than I actually asked for. I can't wait to learn who you are. WOW.

This enthusiastic response almost made me feel shy, it is so effusive. Wow. Thank you so much. I was not in the fest - I heard about it late, but I joined the pinch-hit list. I write gen almost exclusively and reasonable death-eaters at that, so I don't fit many exchanges and was sad to miss this one. Then your fabulous prompt came in and I pounced on it as quickly as I could, because it was Exactly What I Like to Write! I'm so glad you liked it. One always wonders (at least I do) if one's stories are going to be a terrible disappointment or perhaps even offensive. Your response made me smile for a long time. Thank you so very much for giving me the opportunity to write this. I wrote another Snape/Punk story once, though yours is more polished, I think. Red, White and Black
