Summary: Harry tries to relax Severus on a Halloween night many years after the end of the war.
Harry leaned over Severus' shoulder, resting his chin on his thin frame, as they stared into the fires flames together.
Halloween always put Severus into a melancholic mood. Though Harry had lost more than Severus that 1981 night, it was Severus who felt the pain and guilt of that loss. It was true that Severus had enabled the death of Harry's parents, but it was also fact that had it not happened, Harry and Severus would have never been brought together like they were. Though Harry missed the parents he had almost never known, he was happy with the way his life was. It was too bad Severus didn't see it that way.
He used the palms of his hands to massage circles into Severus' tense shoulders. Harry had employed the same tactic for every tense night over the past twelve years the two had been together. More often than not, its progressions brought Severus to climax or sleep.
As Severus began to relax, Harry placed a tender kiss near his ear.
"I love you," he whispered. And though Severus did not respond, Harry knew the feeling was mutual.
Otherwise Severus would not be feeling half as guilty as he was.
