And awaaaaaaaay we go!

Gift for: shadowycat

From: rillalicious

Title: Ghost in the Graveyard
Pairing: Luna/Neville (implied), Minerva/Severus
Rating: PG-13
Disclaimer: I own nothing you recognize. Making no money.
Summary: One night a year, the veil between the worlds is thin, and even a ghost can be almost human again.
Notes: Hope you enjoy this, shadowycat! It went a little more sentimental than "fun", I think.

"It was only one fairy apple. I thought it would make the game more exciting." Luna Lovegood's lilt is as dreamy as ever, though now it carries the timbre of a woman, not a child.

Longbottom speaks next, the words warmed by tolerant amusement. "Incited mass chaos is more like it. And I'm the one who has to inform the parents that bobbing for apples sent their daughter to the fairy realm for a season."

Minerva watches them pass through the graveyard, remaining in the wooded shadows.

"Idiot." The word is spoken over Minerva's shoulder, followed by a soft snort that she recognizes well.

"You're late, Severus," she says.

"Mmm, yes. Underworld traffic is dreadful these days."

Nearly transparent fingertips graze her cheek.

She shivers. "I still haven't grown used to that."

"It's only been a decade of Samhains, after all," he says.

"Then I should acclimate more quickly. I don't suppose I have too many decades more."

"Ever the pragmatist."

She smiles, wryly. "And you're ever the romantic."

"Shh," he whispers. "My reputation."

"So prideful, Severus, even in death."

"Perhaps." A hand on her back now. "Now hush. We've only tonight."

And because the words are true, she does.
