Sybill knew a fraud when she saw one. Gilderoy Lockhart, with his brilliant robes and even more brilliant smile, could charm the knickers off a mannequin, and Sybill was determined to be easier than a piece of carved wood. They were a matched set of charlatans, after all, and should be together.
"My, Gilderoy, how teal becomes you." She thought flattery would work faster than blackmail.
"Er, yes, I know. Anyway, Dumbledore, as I was saying..."
Fine. Blackmail it would be. Sybill didn't have concrete evidence, but she thought a few well-placed implications would be enough.
"When I defeated the Wagga Wagga Werewolf, I-"
"You know, Gilderoy," she said, placing her hand on his forearm and squeezing, hard. "I spent some time in Armenia that same summer. I heard all sorts of tales about that horrible beast!"
There was an uncomfortable pause.
Gilderoy's hand covered hers. "My dear lady, would you like to hear of his defeat from, as they say, the thoroughbred's mouth?" He gave her a piercing leer. "Perhaps after dinner? I have a fine sherry, begging to be opened."
Touché.
Later, with her legs in the air and Gilderoy shagging her as if he could shake her secrets loose, Sybill felt far less a fraud. She knew this would happen.
