On the night when the veil between worlds was thinnest, dark shadows
stretched out across the frosty ground, given life by a bitter wind. Lucius
pushed open a rusted iron gate, wincing at the loud protest that accompanied
its unaccustomed movement and stepped inside a high stone wall. Pockets of
mist drifted silently amongst rows of stone sentinels that marched off into
darkness to either side of him, but his eyes focused only on the marble tomb
that stood directly in his path, waiting.
Drawing his cape a bit closer, he raised his head proudly and strode
forward; reminding himself that Malfoys did not show fear. Upon reaching
his goal, he lifted a latch, opened the door, and stepped into a torch lit
interior. Dark hooded figures lined the walls, watching silently as he
approached the imposing presence in the center of the room and knelt before
him.
“Lucius,” a low voice purred. “Are you ready to join us?”
“Yes, my Lord,” the young man murmured as he pushed back the sleeve of his
garment and extended his left arm, gazing for the last time on its unmarked
flesh as the burning tip of a wand descended. “I am ready.”
