Summary: Auror First Class Harry Potter screws up during a raid, and his long-suffering partner Severus Snape is there to catch him.
Harry blinked awake, realizing he wasn’t in his own bed. Awkward?
He turned his head to see Snape glaring at him, arms crossed.
“Was there anything you wanted to,” Snape paused, “add to your report?”
Harry thought fleetingly about sitting up, but a spike was apparently being driven into his head and straight down his spine. “No?”
“Perhaps that Dolohov is consorting with vampires?”
Oh. Damn. “I did notice that.”
“And perhaps you also noticed that one bit you?”
He closed his eyes. “It was dark. There were… a lot of them.”
“A likely story.”
“Look, I messed up. I should have waited for you.” He winced. “I suppose you have a potion that will fix this?”
“Potion. No.” He handed Harry a flask. “Drink this.”
Harry lifted his aching head and took a sip. He braced for a typical potion, but this one was delicious.
“What was that?” Harry suddenly felt much better, sitting up and licking his lips.
“Your daily breakfast from now on,” Snape replied.
“Wha-“ he looked suspiciously at the flask, the interior coated with a thick red liquid.
“My own concoction. It’s less a potion and more simply blood with a few improvements.”
“Blood? Are you-” Harry stopped. Snape had picked up an identical flask and drank it down. His eyes dared Harry to-
Oh. This explained a lot. “Um. There’s no cure.”
“No. Not that I’ve found.”
“And, er, socializing with humans would be dangerous.”
“Very.”
“Well then,” Harry raised his eyebrow. “Perhaps you would say yes this time to my invitation?”
Snape’s expression shifted, and Harry recognized that look that would be a smile on anyone else. “I might. Once I forgive your extreme stupidity.”
Harry laid back on the pillows, smiling, his hands behind his head. “I can wait.”
