Summary: Rose Granger-Weasley captures the ghostly Shade of the man who had murdered her mother-the former dark wizard, Draco Malfoy. She wishes for revenge upon him. He offers her long-anticipated answers instead.

Notes: Happy Halloween to all! Thank you to the Mods of this fest for once more hosting it for a final year - I've enjoyed playing in your festworld for years. I'll miss you! Iodized salt (regular table salt) in fictional tropes is a tool often used to banish the undead. Iodine, itself, is a mineral nutrient that when in the human body interacts with the thyroid causing it to produce hormones that influence growth and development (hence, in this fic, the undead wouldn't like it as it would cause a reaction within them that would stimulate life functions, which is anathema to them). Kosher salt - considered "pure salt" - actually removes the iodine from the manufacturing process (hence, touching it would not affect the undead in this fic).

The circle was her only defence. It prevented him from escaping.

Within it, the Shade walked slowly, avoiding any accidental brush of the salt line Rose had laid down earlier, as if instinctually aware of its inherent dangers to one of his ilk. With every calculated step, however, he seemed to be measuring the limits of his cage, testing its magical strength to hold him enslaved to this moment.

Draco Malfoy had been a dark and dangerous wizard in life, or so everyone had always warned her.

Rose knew that in death, he'd be equally as formidable, so she was taking no chances-hence the reason she'd used only the purest materials for this spell, starting with the salt line.

"I asked you a question," she snapped at him, irritated with his silence. "Or have you gone deaf as you fade into nothingness, too?"

"Yes, I know who you are," he finally replied with the hollow, eerie calm of the long-time dead. "You look very much like your mother, all doe-eyed and wild hair."

He seemed amused by that characterization.

"Good, then we can dispense with the sham pleasantries." She gripped her inherited wand harder, letting the Vinewood design bite into the flesh of her palm. The pain reminded her of her mission. "No need to waste any more breath when you can guess what comes next."

Rose lifted her wand and pointed it at him.

"Twelve years is a long time to wait for justice, I'm sure," Malfoy taunted, "but don't you wish to know what really happened that day? Or rather, the unusual circumstances that led up to your mother's death?"

Rose's determination faltered.

"What do you mean?"

The minute the words left her mouth, she wanted to shoot herself with an Avada.

Her captive smiled, wickedly amused.
