At his firstHalloween Feast at Hogwarts, Draco remembers one of his few happy memories of Lucius. In spite of whatever happened that night at the Potter's, the spectre of Voldemort haunted his entire childhood.
But one Samhain, Narcissa decided they needed to perform a Harvest ritual. She sent Draco and Lucius to find late blooming flowers, and to harvest a pumpkin under the full moon.
Draco knew they went off the Manor grounds. Malfoy's might breed albino peacocks or raise exotic orchids, but they would never grow anything as simple as pumpkins.
The flowers had been easy, since they were grown together specifically for Harvest Rituals. Draco had watched as Lucius gathered the flowers together.
Draco remembers running about the pumpkin patch, in awe of the variety available.
"This one Father?" He pointed to the largest pumpkin in the patch. (Draco always was about the best of anything.)
"Perhaps something smaller," Lucius suggested.
"This one then!" Draco pointed to a smaller gourd. "And I can carry it!"
"We need something rounder," Lucius replied.
Draco ran off in search of the perfect pumpkin to pick at midnight.
At the end of the night, Lucius carried both a sleepy Draco and the pumpkin back to the Manor.
