Flames crackled merrily in the fire pit and danced in Harry’s cider through the cut glass. It seemed to glow inside of him as well, once swallowed, and lent warmth against the chill wind. Ginny seemed to think so too as she leaned back against his chest, sharing the heat. Their neighbors milled around companionably, some of them eating, visiting, telling stories.
Part of the local childhood horde squalled through the place, background noise to go with the wind, but little by little they were gathered and put to bed. Molly Weasley, who was related to most of them, took to that task with relish.
“Give me,” Ginny said, making a grab at the cup and the small bit of remaining cider.
“Why would I do that?” he asked playfully, the atmosphere and the cider making him so.
“Give me… or I won’t tell Luna that she can stay tonight.” A wiggle of her bum gave naughty emphasis to innocent words.
“Well now. If you put it that way,” he murmured, pressing the glass into her hand and looking to where their very good friend Luna was talking to friends but sneaking glances across the flames to both of them.
