"I just don't understand the appeal of Halloween in the wizarding world," Snape commented, wondering how Minerva would react to his statement.

"Severus, I know your displeasure with this date has nothing to do with the holiday." Minerva sipped at her tea.

He scowled, as if he needed another reminder about the night Lily lost her life. "I was simply referencing the fact that Halloween is pointless in the Muggle world. It's mocking our lifestyle."

Minerva frowned, "You would think growing up in the Muggle world would have given you more of an understanding and acceptance of their traditions, Severus.

Severus was taken aback by her words. "I was never able to dress up and go out for sweets due to my father's temper. Instead, I stayed indoors and listened to my mother explain the sanctity of Samhain."

Minerva frowned. "Muggles don't know any different, Severus, and we can't fault them for that. They dress as ghosts and werewolves, not knowing that they're real here in our world."

"But then why do we celebrate it so thoroughly here in the castle?"

Minerva snorted into her tea. "I suspect that is due to the Headmaster's desire to engage in such frivolity."
