Harry took a deep, bracing, breath of fresh air. He loved these cool, Autumn nights in rural Wiltshire. Ahead, the Manor was ablaze with lights, and Harry quickened his step, anxious for the warmth of home.
Home
Never would Harry have thought that Malfoy Manor could be considered home, but life had a way of throwing surprises his way. As Harry rounded a bend on the garden path, he was grabbed from behind.
"Gotcha!"
Harry's startled cry turned to a laugh. His heart, which had jumped in momentary fright, was now racing for an entirely different reason.
"You're fortunate I didn't hex you," Harry chided.
Draco snickered in his ear. "You fail at constant vigilance, love," he countered. "Old Moody would be disappointed in you."
"In the future, I shall endeavor to be more on guard," said Harry. He leaned in and pressed a kiss to Draco's lips. "In the meantime, we have a fancy dress ball to get ready for."
Draco released Harry and took his hand. "At least we're not hosting this one," he said, leading the way to the Manor. "What is this year's theme?"
"Vampires," replied Harry. "It's a good look for you; you're already pale."
