Absolutely brilliant. I loved this to pieces. Your OCs were all greatly sketched (oooh, I think I'm in love with Siofra, just a little bit ;) ), and their interactions were so real. This is what I loved most about this - how they're still teenagers, how they still worry about the house points and essays and everything, and all the while there's the war lurking in the corners. I loved the complicated and real way you addressed their differences - not everyone is going to be a hero, not everyone is going to think about what they were taught and why they were being taught it - esp. those who aren't in the trio's year or don't have families who are involved in the Order and so never see what it's about. The Slytherins too - the uninvolved Slytherins are so rarely explored, and this was such a realistic depiction of it, their attitudes and the way they see the world (and HUH! Chrysenthemum's secret.)
I loved the differences between friends - Demelza and Siofra but mostly Orrel and Derek, the way they're growing apart over the attitudes about the war - so very real and really the amazing heart of your story. And Orrel, in the end, trying to fix things when it's already too late... sniff.
That was simply a brilliant fic - funny and moving and heartbreaking and honest, all at the same time.
:D Thank you so much! I didn't want to get too cliche with the Slytherins but I thought this would be a nice twist. In my mind Chrysanthemum was just spooking herself because they were all sort of in the wrong place at the wrong time. Glad Orrel and Derek came through for you, they had some shorter sections but I'm glad they didn't get shortchanged. Thanks again, I'm so glad you enjoyed!
