Weekly Round-Up #1

Jul 07, 2012 18:00

We're on hiatus today to give you ample opportunity to catch up with your reading. So here's the round-up for the first week:

What Friendship Means (Severus Snape, various; 6,700 words) -- On DW.
Young and old, old and new, Severus has friends; it just takes an unlikely house guest to remind him of that fact.

A Bit o' Magic (Argus Filch, Mrs. Norris; 4750 words) -- On DW.
The Caretaker and his cat have lived together for years, but now one or both of them are reaching their time.

The Sceptic’s Guide to Spotting Impossible Beasts (Hermione Granger, Luna Lovegood; 2,050 words) -- On DW.
Somewhere out there there’s a Crumple-Horned Snorkack with Hermione Granger’s name on it.

And It Could Be Me, And It Could Be Thee (Griselda Marchbanks, Augusta Longbottom; 10,217 words) -- On DW.
Augusta looks back upon a long friendship, and many surreptitiously-enjoyed cricket seasons, and bugger the pureblood fanatics.

What Always Has Been (Ginny Weasley, Neville Longbottom; ~7,600 words) -- On DW.
Five years after the war, The Daily Prophet published a series of articles calling Neville “The Boy Who Might Have Been.” Harry was embarrassed, but Ginny was incensed, because she knew better than anyone that Neville was no Might Have Been.

Mad Dogs and Scotsmen (Alastor Moody, Emmeline Vance; ~2,800 words) -- On DW.
"Growing up in the country with old-fashioned grandparents, you slapped a poultice on whatever ailed you and hoped for the best. Dragon pox, a broken arm, being stuck in a trunk for ten months. Either you got well or you didn't, and that was that." Or, the one in which Emmeline chose a bad month to quit smoking.
