Popcorn,
I miss you. Sometimes I wish you were here more, but then again I'd give anything to travel the way you do...
Bill reread the beginning of the letter over and over again. Traveling wasn't all it was cracked up to be. He always seemed to miss out on everything that happened with his baby sister, his peanut. She always pretended to hate it when he called her that, but he knew she secretly loved it; the same with her calling him popcorn. It was something that belonged to them and them alone. And in a family like theirs holding onto something like that was priceless.
He moved around Egypt fairly often, entering the various pyramids and tombs. He knew there was a risk he wouldn't come back out, but he loved his job. Though, thoughts of that little red-headed peanut didn't fail to cross his mind every time he started a new assignment, or every time he narrowly missed never seeing her again.
And then came days like this, when he'd get an owl from her and he couldn't put it down. He could feel every word like a stab at his heart. She was trying to hide her feelings again, trying to hide just how much she missed him. But he always knew how she really felt and it hurt that much more to go on another assignment. He'd thought of giving it up completely and going home to see her, but she'd never forgive him if she was the reason he gave up something he loved.
Sighing, he took out a quill and parchment. Bill quickly wrote an owl to the head of his department requesting a lengthy amount of time off. He'd had enough traveling for a long while. It was time he finally caught up with his favorite person as he seemed to have missed so much on reading the rest of her letter.
With a smile, he wrote one last owl, sending it off quickly while he set off to pack.
Peanut,
Be home soon.
Love,
Popcorn
