Summary: Sequel to Truth. This is part 6 of 7. Charlie realizes just what he had to leave behind and it's nothing a feeling he's used to.

It hurt when Charlie had to leave the next morning. It physically, emotionally, spiritually hurt. He'd never quite felt something like that before. He hadn't even slept with her, only held her in his arms.
She was teaching him whether she thought it or not; teaching him how to hold onto something that mattered. She was teaching him how to cherish, and even how to love.
Being back at work didn't have the same spark it once had. It didn't bring him the same joy. And when he was given the assignment of collecting dragon tears needed for a draught at St. Mungo's, he felt he had broken.
The tears that splashed on the rough terrain were not that of the dragon in his care; they were his own. One of the only times he could ever remember tears coming to his eyes; a moment of true angst and heartbreak.
All he could think about were the tears streaming down her cheek as he walked away, preparing to Apparate; those warm, salty tears that he brushed away with his thumb, kissing her lips softly and thanking her for more than she could ever understand.
She was always on his mind. Verity. The one name he'd never forget.
