He fell, face forward, onto cold stone and felt the bride of his glasses snap.
Dizzy and bruised, covered in soot, he gingerly got to his feet, holding his broken glasses up to his eyes. The shop was empty, and he was glad of that, but he still didn't know where he was. It certainly wasn't Diagon Alley and he had no idea how to get there.

He couldn't stand around all day, however. Mrs. Weasley would surely have the entire Ministry searching for him by now. He crossed the small shop to the door, passing glass cases full of bones and masks and other things that would make a dark wizard happy.

Before he could reach the door Harry caught sight of two wizards making their way towards the store. Blonde-white hair and steal-grey eyes. Draco Malfoy with who could only be his father.

Cursing silently, Harry searched the shop for a place to hide. The only thing large enough was a black cabinet to his left and he managed to reach it just as the balls over the door signaled Malfoy's arrival.

He left the door of the cabinet open slightly and he could see Draco nosing around the store while his father waited at the counter for help. Draco came dangerously close to the cabinet Harry was in more than once and Harry was relieved when his father barked at him not to touch anything.

His father had gotten the attention of the shopkeeper and Harry could hear him bartering with the man before he finally wished him goodbye. Harry held his breath as Malfoy's father made his way out of the shop, hoping his son would follow. But he must have forgotten about Draco being there because the tinkling bells above the door faded and Draco still stood looking around, rolling an eye through his fingers. The shopkeeper had gone to the back, mumbling something Harry couldn't make out, as he glared at Malfoy.

"Come on," he whispered. "Leave already.

Draco spun on his heals, his cold grey eyes catching sight of the cabinet once again. Harry knew that this time Malfoy was going to find him there, and as he watched the Slytherin close the gap and reach a hand towards the door, Harry got his wand ready.

The door swung open and the sudden harsh light of the sun made Harry wince, though he caught the look on Malfoy's face as it went from shock to amusement.

"Potter?"

Harry stepped from the cabinet, around Malfoy, and dusted himself off.

"Trapped in the closet are we Potter?" Harry couldn't see the smirk, but it was there. It was always there.

"Maybe you are, Malfoy."

"Always knew you are a ponce."

Harry didn't respond as he shoved past Draco, knocking into his shoulder as he started towards the door.

"I got lost, nto that it's any of your business. And t hat's a cabinet so you know, not a closet."

Malfoy just chucked behind him and the sound married with the breaking of the cabinet. When Harry reached the shop exit he turned to find Draco peering inside.

"So where's Weaselby then?"

"Sod off, Malfoy."

The water could not have been more different on the journey back to King's Cross than it had been on their way to Hogwarts the previous September. There wasn't a single cloud in the sky. The atmosphere on the Hogwarts Express that summer was a solemn one. Students stayed in their cabins, sitting silently and reflecting on the year gone by.

Confusion raced through their minds; about death and Cedric. About evil and Voldemort. Each made a quiet promise to themselves to love those who were still in their lives. To always remember those who were not.

Brothers against brothers. Lovers against lovers. It wasn't supposed to be that way. Life wasn't supposed to work like that. The dreams of the innocent were starting to fade and to some it all seemed unfair. These times were supposed to be wild and fun. Children were not supposed to have to look over their shoulders, afraid of what's lurking in the shadows or the smile of a stranger.

Loyalties will be tested, oh yes. And what side do you choose? Who makes the rules and what happens if you break them? War is never kind and the one you fight with yourself can not be penetrated by a spell.

The ride to London seems to take forever that summer as lives intertwine connect disentangle. How do you tell your enemy from your friend and why do you have to?

As the train pulled into the station no one moved. They weren't ready for what awaited them. But soon they would have no choice. As it had been said, what will come will come, and then soon they will no longer be able to close their eyes to the world around them. Soon they will be fighting for their lives. And some will lose.
