►author's notes: Hi Ajin! I hope this story fits your taste. I like Auror stories and I love seeing them in action. I wish I could've written this better for you. But alas, I am no JKR. If you have any questions regarding this AU, don't hesitate to ask! I love Harry Potter as much as I love EXO. ^^

Outskirts of the Brazilian Rainforest
Fire Slug Haven

The year was 2018.

Two aurors could be seen taking turns throwing jinxes at a full grown troll at least 5 times their size. The mission itself was ranked C since the residents have been complaining of the recent increase in Troll related destruction. Driving them back into the forest would’ve have been easy as 1,2,3… if only they had even half of their goddamn mind to stop their bickering.

“Carpe Retractum!” a tall blonde boy casted a magical rope to pull a small troll near the group of trolls they are redirecting back towards the forest. He looked at his partner who was currently climbing the largest troll’s arm.

“Confundo!” Chanyeol jumped from one arm towards the other as the slow troll frantically tried to catch the annoying creature jumping around him.

“Step back Park!” Kris shouted as he gritted his teeth at the dangerous performance his ‘partner’ was showing him.

“I can handle this!” Chanyeol replied with a goofy smile on his face. It was obvious that he was totally enjoying the control he had over the situation. “I totally have him at the palm of my hand!”

Kris, the older and self-proclaimed ‘more’ level headed auror fought back the urge to pull on his blonde locks which reached just past the tragus of his ears.

“Yah! Move out of the way!” Kris warned as he guided the smaller trolls marching towards the Brazilian Forest.

Technically, Chanyeol was the epitome of an auror given his credentials. Even though the goofy man was 2 years younger than him, he bravely signed up immediately after his graduation for an auror position. Right about the same time as him.

Usually, newly graduates such as Kris himself accumulated experiences before applying to become an auror. For him, it was a 2-year apprenticeship under Charlie Weasley in Romania. It really was commendable that Chanyeol didn’t need more. The grinning boy was, after all, the Triwizard champion.

Though their history as students in Hogwarts was complicated, Kris had a knack for recognizing talent when he sees one. And back then he thought that partnering up with a very talented wizard such as Chanyeol would be a good idea. Personal history aside. But he’s seriously questioning his abilities at the moment.

“Oh look! Fire slugs!!! Hey Wu, watch this!” Chanyeol shouted as he unleashed a perfectly conjured Fire Phoenix with wings spreading far and wide. “The trolls are attracted to it like moths to a candle light!”

Bad move. Kris winced at the stupidness of his partner. This is what happens when they get too laidback.

“CANDLE LIGHT?! Are you seriously comparing that huge THING to a freaking candle light?!?!”

The phoenix was beautiful. It had blue flames for eyes and wings made of different shades of fire, ranging from fiery red-orange to meek and bright yellow.

The flames burned on and on and on in front of them as the Phoenix flew in circles, attracting trolls and fire slugs at the entrance of the forest. But alas, it was undoubtedly incinerating everything in its path. Considering they were in a forest, that would equate to trees… a whole lot of them. Kris cursed under his breath.

“FINITE INCANTATEM!” Chanyeol nervously chuckled as the Fire Phoenix vanished into thin smoke rising up towards the sky. Unfortunately, the forest was still drowning in a sea of flames. “Aguamenti! More Water!!! Kris!!”

“Aqua Eructo!” Kris conjured a blast of water at the tip of his wand. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to extinguish the flames. He needed more sources of water to extinguish the embers threatening to scald the whole forest. “PARK CHANYEOL! Can’t you stick with the plan just this once?!?!”

“Are you doing what I think you’re doing??!” Chanyeol frantically questioned his partner while looking at the mist enveloping their surroundings. “That’s forbidden magic! Stop it Wu, it’s not funny!”

“You left me with no choice!” Though Kris graduated as a Slytherin from Hogwarts, he started as a transfer student hailing from a small Canadian Wizardry School, rumoured to have the same principles as Durmstrang. Hence his affinity to the Dark Arts. It was also where he learned that taking away nutrition from other living things was a bad idea.

“Kris, don’t do it!!!” Chanyeol shouted as he stared wide-eyed at his partner, his jaw dropping to the ground. He regretted it, he regretted it now. They’re dead. So dead. Not because of his misplaced mischievousness but because Harry’s gonna kill them. He definitely will.

Auror Office
Department of Magical Law Enforcement
Level 2. Ministry of Magic

“You two again… Why am I not even the slightest bit surprised?”

Kyungsoo looked on as the two morons were scolded by the Head Auror in his widely open office.  He scoffed.

It was actually an awesome sight if you disregard the scolding. All three men were popular in their own right.

On one hand there was Hogwarts’ most recent Golden Boy Park Chanyeol who won the latest Triwizard tournament, and on the other was the Dragon Tamer Kris Wu who held the position of Head Boy. He was also given the title of Slytherin Quidditch team captain the moment he transferred to Hogwarts as a fourth year, and, while under his captainship, the Slytherin house boasted of a perfect record. Not a single loss. Even professional Quidditch players commend him for his flying skills, he was a natural.

However, despite their sparkling credentials, both men had their heads bowed in front of the most respected wizard of today’s generation. A true hero and the world’s savior. The only person known to survive the Killing Curse in more than one occasion.

“But we cleaned it all up and finished the mission in record time too, Sir,” Chanyeol gulped as he squinted his eyes to catch a glimpse of the Head Auror with his arms crossed in front of his chest.

To say that Harry was pissed would totally be an understatement. Kris was one of the most talented, if not the best, dragon tamer. While Chanyeol was a very coveted talent with superior control over fire albeit a knack for rule-breaking.

Then why? Why the hell won’t these two ever get along?  The head auror thought to himself through gritted teeth.

It’s not like he could spare any other men to partner with them separately. The auror office has not been the most popular job choice for newly graduated students. And to top it all off, the requirements alone would be enough to scare any potential applicants. Everyone has been paired off perfectly with the exception of these two.

“It has been a year, you two. I can’t let this behavior pass any longer.” Harry ominously started. “You are both, henceforth, temporarily banned from missions until further notice. I will make sure you are rightfully punished. You will start paying your punishment first thing tomorrow.”

“That’s unfair!” the two chorused.

“You know what’s unfair??” Harry growled, “Wasting human resources. Kyungsoo is a very promising applicant and instead of training him to prepare for the next auror exam, I assigned him to play nanny to keep an eye for both of you! I will not tolerate your behavior any longer. Both of you are full-fledged aurors who passed the aptitude test with flying colors. THAT is the only reason why the auror office is enduring your childish exhibitions.”

The head auror continued to give a piece of his mind regarding the recent performances of the two as well as tips on how to better control their emotions. Kyungsoo thought he heard the head auror lecturing them a bit on Occlumency. The young auror couldn’t help but hide his smirk. He wouldn’t exactly go to Harry for Occlumency lectures. Malfoy, perhaps?

“Oooh, must feel nice for the legend to speak so highly of you” Luhan whispered to Kyungsoo as the older auror sat next to him in the couch. Kyungsoo gave the pretty boy a tight-lipped smile. The attention was nice but he was here to fight evil.

“Leave the child alone Lulu,” an auror by the name of Xiumin entered the auror’s office with a slight glance towards the head office. Luhan flitted towards the older auror like a butterfly to a flower. His smile was infectious too.

“Here, something to calm your nerves,” Kyungsoo felt a piece of candy in his hand. He looked up to see it was one of the healers stationed in the auror office. The man in front of him was called Lay. He didn’t know what his real name was. No one did. Maybe Luhan, but who knows?

“Thank you, Sir.”

After a few more minutes, the two morons seemed to get it. The head auror’s voice mellowed remarkably and by now he was just showing his concern regarding their safety. The partner system was set up eons ago and was designed so each person could look out for the other. It has worked well with most aurors and was one of the reasons the auror mortality rate went down. They bowed their head low in acceptance of their punishment. At least they were man enough to owe up to their actions.

“Earth to Kyungsoo~” Luhan tapped Kyungsoo. “Your boyfriend is here.”

Main Stable
Hogwarts Castle and Grounds
Scotland, Great Britain

“Did you get back together?” Chanyeol tentatively asked his so-called partner.

“Clean.” Kris managed to grumble as he turned his back from Chanyeol, ignoring the question and focusing on cleaning the window of the carriage.

The punishment was not as difficult as it sounds. The carriages the Thestrals pull needed a bit of a cleaning for the next Hogsmeade trip. It would be easier to clean it with a bit of magic - Scourgify, perhaps? - but of course that would be too easy for two talented wizards and Harry’s main objective was to give them a chance to talk out their differences and learn to cooperate with each other.

“Look, I said I was sorry.” Chanyeol mumbled under his breath as he pouted in front of the carriage.

Not a moment too soon, Hogwart’s resident half-giant entered the stable amidst the thick tension bristling in the air.

“Good morning, young aurors!” Hagrid greeted.

“Hagrid!” Chanyeol beamed, delighted to see his friend. “I’ve been meaning to see you! It’s been ages.”

“It’s only been a year since you graduated,” Kris huffed.

“Well, it’s been too long since I last saw Hagrid. Can you bugger off?” Chanyeol gritted his teeth to suppress his annoyance. He really didn’t want to make a scene in front of Hagrid.

“Well, I’ve definitely heard about you two and that stunt you pulled at Brazil,” Hagrid pointed his index finger back and forth the two. “Are you sure you’re up to the task I’m about to hand you?”

“You mean, there’s more?” Chanyeol gaped.

“Of course there’s more! You’d think Harry would let you off the hook that easy?” Hagrid chuckled earning a mumbled ‘I knew it’ from both men.

Just then, three pairs of feet shuffled inside the stable. There were two boys and one girl who towered over the two. Based on Kris’ instincts, they were in their first few years in Hogwarts. Second year, maybe? The glint in their eyes suggest an abundance of innocent and curious mischief. Kris already knew who they were and the type of punishment they were given. He sighed.

“Let’s see, red hair, and Gryffindor robes, most definitely a Weasley. Ms. Rose? And of course, this must be young Albus beside you.” Kris stated as he shook hands with the three children. “And we have Scorpius, of course, how’s your dad been?”

“My dad’s great. Thank you.” Scorpius amicably answered, shaking hands with his fellow Slytherin. “And he’s been meaning to ask if you were to join us again for Thanksgiving this year?”

“We’ll see how it goes. Auror duties.” Kris curled his lips at the young boy.

“You’re Kris Wu!” the red headed girl shouted in delight. “You’re the dragon tamer! Uncle Charlie told us stories about you! That he did! Didn’t he, Albus?”

“Yes.” The boy answered as he gave Kris’ hands a humble shake.

“And you’re Park Chanyeol! James couldn’t shut up about you last summer. He was there when you won the Triwizard tournament. He was so proud, dad had to remind him Uncle Harry won it too...” Rose made a face as she scrunched her nose. “But anyway… You’re a rockstar! Just wait ‘til I tell James we went with you for detention!”

“Detention?” Chanyeol asked, his eyebrows almost meeting at the middle.

“These young’uns were caught in the hallways well past curfew. A trait I’ve seen was passed down to their generation.” Hagrid side-eyed the kids as they sheepishly smiled. “I thought it best if you two could accompany us in the Forbidden Forest as part of yer punishment. And for extra protection as well. Safety first.”

“I thought he wasn’t serious about going in the Forbidden Forest.” Rose talked out loud to nobody in particular. Eyes sparkling at the thought of a possible adventure alongside the shorter boy.

“We can’t go in the forest! It’s Forbidden!” Scorpius shivered as Hagrid led the pack towards the path out of the main stables and into the entrance of the forest.

The young boy’s complaints were drowned with the other two’s excited eyes. Kris squeezed young Scorpius’ shoulders with a look of reassurance on his eyes. “You’ll be fine. I don’t have much memories going in the forest but they did make for a fair adventure.”

“So getting rejected by the crush you never really gotten over with in the Forbidden Forest is a fair adventure?” Scorpius innocently asked as both aurors stopped in their tracks.

“Scorpius!” Hagrid and the other two children exclaimed.

“What?” the blonde boy asked as he shrugged. “I had a point. Plus he still pines for that person until now.”

Kris wanted to bury himself to the ground. It was embarrassing how his closeness to a fellow Slytherin actually had a potential to make him writhe in self-loathing. He couldn’t even blame the kid for his innocent remark because the kid had a point. Kris chanced a look towards Chanyeol’s direction who was now staring at the ground with dazed eyes.

“I, for one, think that a man as great as you didn’t deserve to be rejected.” Albus tried to reassure him. Kris was just not sure it is a very welcome topic right now.

“Well, I wasn’t exactly a great man when we first met so I don’t blame that person for anything.” Kris tried to douse the sparking fire.

“Is that him?” Scorpius asked as he pointed to another wizard clad in an auror’s brown robe.

“Uhhh.. no. But I’ll be back,” Kris told the group as he jogged towards Kyungsoo. He couldn’t believe he was being lectured by students.

As Kris jogged on farther from the group, Chanyeol looked at him with confused eyes.

Epilogue

Hall of Prophecies, Department of Mysteries, Ministry of Magic
“I bet five galleons Park thinks Wu and Do are dating.” Luhan smirked as he sipped the coffee Lay poured for him.
“But isn’t he dating…?” Lay droned on as Luhan waved off another cup floating in the air.
“Ten galleons that they’ll hook up before their next assignment.” Xiumin responded with a smirk of his own as he made ice cubes and placed it on his coffee.
