A Normal Affair

This was originally going to be a response to socaptivated‘s “A Weasley’s Affair” essay, but, it got so long that I figured it was an essay in its own right. I’m not completely bashing the other essay, but I am analyzing the family from a different, more positive, point of view.
So, here it is, as counterpoint to A Weasley’s Affair: ( A Normal Affair )

characters:weasley family:bill, characters:weasley family:percy, characters:weasley family:fred & george, characters:weasley family:ginny, characters:weasley family:charlie, characters:weasley family, characters:weasley family:molly, characters:weasley family:arthur, characters:weasley family:ron

Wow... I inspired a counter-argument. Cool.

Umm... sorry... Yes, I agree that comparing the Weasleys to the Dursleys is a bit harsh.

The point I was trying to get across is that Harry seems to equate "normal" with "perfect" (now that I think about it, I never really came out and said that, so I apologise for now being clear). He frequently refers to the Weasleys and the Burrow as being "perfect" and that in itself irks me greatly.

My main point was to bring to the surface the fact that they aren't, and I don't believe JKR wants us to see them that way. Basically, it all depends. A person who always looks for the best in things would peobably prefer this view of the situation. A cynical mind like mine might gravitate towards my essay. A person who is openminded, but reality consious, might think that the dynamics are somewhere between our two theories.

Regardless, as I said in my essay, these are just theories. Jo Rowling will probably never tell us either way, because she's said herself that she loves to red/hear the arguments and discussions over the way things in the HP universe run.

Even so, I applaud your theory. If we see any evidence of eith theory through our R-THG, it's probably going to be yours. Jo isn't cynical enough with her viewpoints to drag her younger readers through all the problems I inferred.
