Harry Potter and the ******* ******* (NO spoilers)

Okay, so now that we know the title of book 7, I decided to look back through Mugglenet's archives to see if I could find info that had been released about Half-Blood Prince, to try and figure out when we might see Book 7 on the shelves.

Here's the info I found )

I agree with Christmas. Plus, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that JKR won't allow HP books to be released when children are in school (hence the reason we always get them during the summer or winter holidays) because she doesn't want mass amounts of kids not doing their work in order to read HP.

So yeah, I just don't see Halloween happening...All though I'd love for it to be because it's earlier than Christmas!

It's just something I read somewhere a while ago. Would you really doubt that she doesn't though? She has to make them 50% if not more of their yearly income the year she releases a HP book.

Well, no, she doesn't. Scholastic lost money the year HBP was released. theor overall sales were down, as was their stock. Two weeks before OotP was released, they had layoffs and couldn't make up for losses at the end of the year.

The first print run of HBP was, what, 8 million copies? That's a record breaker for an individual book, to be sure, but it's not 50% of Scholastic's overall printing.

(This info came from Publishers Weekly, if you'd like to read more.)

Darn, I was really hoping for an 07/07/07 release. A Christmas release would just be INSANE. Not only will all the diehards go out to get it, you'd have Christmas shoppers in the bargain.

It'd be people punching each other over books in addition to toys. Joy! I love holiday mayhem!

But I'm sick that way.

Does anyone have information about the date of title announcements and the date of release for Books 3, 4, & 5? We need more data before we can draw a conclusion.

The time between title announcements and release dates has been different every time - at least since people started obsessing about when the new books were coming out. The title of GoF was announced something like a week before it was released. She blurted the title of OotP to some cute kid two and a half years before it was released. And we know it was a year between title announcement and actual release for HBP. Unfortunately, there's no reliable "cycle" of new book news.

However, I think it was also be best to keep in mind that the info about GoF and OotP was before she technically had an outlet to let her fans know. Because of this, I think the only one you could really base it on, if you can base it on any is HBP.

Am I allowed to say that I'm not buying Book 7, and that I'll wait to rent it from the library--IF my friends say that it's worth reading?

I'm seconding this.
My friends and I are already calling it 'Harry Potter and the Book We're Not Waiting in Line for Hours to Buy'.

I guess I just don't understand why people wouldn't want to read it after reading the previous 6. I'm not trying to argue and I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I'm just simply saying I don't understand why?

I don't doubt that I'll read it, but I won't be in any hurry to do so.
The last book was so incredibly dire that it completely put me off caring what happens next.
