The Drought of the Draught

The Draught of Living Death

As part of a revisit to some old issues, and due to some unexpected inspiration on my former sleep-filled morning tube (subway) journeys, I have had a nugget of thought about this potion that we have yet to see the applied use of in the HP series. ( Read more... )

Nice theory. :) I've been thinking Harry would have to go behind that veil in the last book, and this presents a really nice answer as to how.

Some friends and I have been wondering if there is a Shamanic Journey upcoming for Harry. Since there has been reference to mushrooms as big as a dinner plate, we wondered if Magic Mushrooms are involved. The spider venom may also be a part of the potion, as spiders bite their victims and paralyze them and Slughorn was quite keen to get ahold of that venom.

particularly as the white stag represents, in a dozen or so wildly different cultures, the spiritual or shamanic journey.

I am a subscriber to Harry’s scar is an inadvertent, accidental Horcrux which harbors a piece of Voldemort’s soul that manifested itself there through the failure of the curse in Godric’s Hollow. (another essay also). So how exactly is Harry to remove that soul from his head? Dementors? Well they’re not really that choosy about which souls they suck out- they may just take Harry’s soul too! Then I got to thinking about the great metaphysical and spiritual journey that Harry may have to take in order to defeat LV because lets face it, LV is a much more accomplished wizard. Hold that thought also.

the DoLd might be a way to trick the Dementors! if Harry appears dead, if his "soul" is journeying, and not present in his body, then the only soul they can sense will be the fragment of Voldie's.

Good insight on the possible double meaning of the rhyme!

I was a bit unsure whether to include Felix in the 1 hour timeslot - as Slughorn says one bottle lasted 2 days for him, Harry takes a small swig which lasts a few hours and Ginny,Ron and Hermione share the rest of the bottle when the DE's attack.

but to be filed under "mentioned and then used"-all but one lasts longer than an hour (that we know of; Veritaserum a case could be made either way).

Oh I get what you saying now, yes you are quite right. When I get to writing these theories, I hammer the keyboard without looking back!

I really agree with the idea that Harry will go behind the veil. I have been thinking that before book six. I already thought he had a part of Voldemort inside his scar and I thought that Voldemort had made something to guarantee his immortality that would have to undone. JKR said things in her interviews and chats that made me think of it. The importance of asking why Voldemort had not died with the rebounded AK, why Dumbledore did not try to kill Voldemort, the fact that she didn't answer if we'd be seeing Sirius again and how, the fact that she mentioned that the importance of Harry's scar is not its shape ( ... )

b) ME TOO ME TOO!!!

In fact, I wrote a whole essay in this community explaining why it was not Harry's LOVE, per se, that expelled Voldemort from possessing him in the Ministry, but Harry's fervent and genuine in that moment DESIRE FOR DEATH.

His love was a catalyst, but not the cause.
