Well, I think it started with the prejudice muggles had against them, and to protect themselves, they started dehumanizing the muggles and building themselves up as superior beings - which really isn't all that hard to do when you can do MAGIC and you're surrounded by people who can't even begin to imagine the things you can accomplish
( ... )
Also I think witches and wizards should stay in hiding. Why?
Because there are just too few of them. There are 7 billion people on this planet. I imagine barely a million of them have magical abilities. They could never hope to stymy human misery even if they tried. Not to mention that they would be hunted, experimented on, killed, feared, dissected, forced to fight in armies, caged and contained. No, no, there's just not enough witches and wizards to protect themselves in numbers, it's too dangerous. People in Tanzania, for example, who are albinos are routinely killed because they are believed to have magical properties. It's just an example of how much human cruelty and ignorance can be pushed to doing unspeakable things... can you imagine if people knew about ACTUAL witches/wizards? Eek.
For a few weeks I've been thinking of writing a fic where the Wizarding World is forced out of hiding and both worlds have to come together... but then you just come in with realistic situations and BOOM gone
1. What do you think of the blood prejudice established in the series and it's allegorical implications?
I thought it was pretty well done in the series and quite clear. That said, I think having some rl perspective on institutional racism/prejudice helps immensely.
2. Is it justified to single out Squibs and ostracize them from Wizarding society?
Nobody should be ostracized for something like that! Especially since they can't help how they were born.
3. What is your opinion of the term Mudblood? Is it as severe as racial slurs in our society or something else?
The best way for us to understand the severity of Mudblood is to compare it to our rl racial epithets. I'd liken it to calling somebody in ~our world~ the N word.
4. What do you think of the alienation between magical and muggle society? Do you think Muggle relations could be improved (namedrop)?
I'm not sure if they could ever be improved, really :S The separation must be really interesting for Muggleborns though, I'm interested in that.

It's like any sort of other racial slur. It is going to come whether some like it or not
