The owl delivers a package that contains a set of keys, a
picture, and a letter that reads:
Brando,
Happy 17th birthday. I know it's tradition to give a wizard a watch on this 17th birthday. I'm leaving that up to your mum or your grandfathers or any of your uncles, aunts, and various other relatives. It's not that I don't follow tradition. I just like to make my own traditions up. When your sister turned seventeen I got her a car that I thought she'd like. It was one that I worked on in my spare time until I felt it was perfect for my baby girl. The same is true with this one. There is a little story that goes with why I chose the Mustang for you.
Shortly before you were born I was attacked on the job at Hogwarts. If you hear your mother or Uncle Saiah talk about it they'll swear I was out for a month or something equally dramatic. The truth was, I was unconscious for a few days. I had some rather strange coma dreams. In the last one you were there. You looked...exactly like you do now. I never told your mother this. I didn't want her to start laughing and calling me Trewlawny or asking if I saw the grim in the backyard near the ducks. Anyway, you helped to convince me it was time to wake up. You happened to be admiring the car that I didn't have in my collection. This black mustang that I've now restored for you. I told myself that I would hunt one down and present it to you the day the world saw you as a man. Today is that day.
I'm so proud of you. Your mother and I have been very blessed to have the most extraordinary and amazing children in the world. Even when you and I don't agree on something I am still proud to call you my son. There is a world of possibilities just waiting for you to make them your own, Son. I suspect you will do just that. Come home this weekend and we'll properly celebrate your birthday and take the car out.
Love,
Dad
