Binding/Publishing ChangeSadly, because of my continued hiatus issues with the project, pushing everything at the end, and the size of the book, the original person who had volunteered to bind this book no longer is able to due to other commitments. I apologize to everyone who was looking forward to having a hand bound book, because the loss of ( Read more... )

Just to be clear about my withdrawing from binding this book. Ani contacted me a few days ago and told me the book would be soft-bound by lulu because that was the best price. She then asked me to do the impossible- take that and bind it in a coptic binding.
Umpteem months ago we had a com for project editors where the process of layout and binding the book was discussed extensively - down to the size of the paper and how it was to be laid out for binding. So it was no surprise that changing how the book is being printed would make doing the coptic binding impossible.

I explained to ani that the soft-bound book could not be bound this way, but offered instead to make a presentation box. In order to do this - dimensions would need be given to me- they could not change. Also, I would need time- as I have other commitments. I suggested end of July, but ani wanted it for March or April. That is not enough time and due to the multiple delays, and poor communication over the length of the project, I decided not to subject myself to potentially more arbitrary changes, pressure and confusion.
I am very sorry not to be able to participate - the art that I have seen is brilliant.

Again, I am so sorry my lack of consistent communication with you and mismanagement of the time schedule (and not sending you a copy for approval months ago) made it so that you did not know all the issues involved in binding this book nor the date I was hoping to have it done by until far too late. I am sincerely sorry the sum of those mistakes made me inconsiderate to your needs as an artist.

I am also further sorry that I could not make the July date a firm possibility. I understand why you would want to withdraw, and you are right I did not manage this end of the project well in regards to communicating with you, and I am sorry both that it hurt you and caused you aggravation and that it cost this project your talent.

-Ani
