Wow, that was one of the bext moving experiences I've had. I absolutely love my family and friends. Everything was out of the apartment and into the house (even tho it's a town home, I'll calling it the house) in less than 4 hours. I'll post pics of the chaos in a while. I regret not getting empty home pics prior to all the stuff arriving.
My mom stayed behind at the apartment to do a final once-over cleaning and was the last to arrive at the house. I was inside and my dad said "hey, we found a box at our house that we think belongs to you, it's in mom's car". I was thinking that they brought over a box of my childhood toys and stuff they'd been storing in their attic. So I walked out and there was my mom in the car and set behind her in the back seat was a grill! I have a grill!!!! And we used it last night, lol. I was so happy, couldn't do anything buy smile and say thank you.
The only minorly major thing is the washer & dryer issue. When I moved last year, my parent's gave me their old washer and dryer because they had invested in the high effeciency/capacity front lods. The washer was on it's last leg to begin with but finally crapped out Friday night on the last load of stuff. It's about 15-20 years old and time to go. So I thought, well, I'll invest in a high effecieny front load washer now and get the dryer later since mine still works. So we get to the house, get they dryer up stairs, make a trip to Home Depot for a 4 prong electrical cord, get home, get it installed, move the dryer into place and the door wont open b/c of the door to the laundry room. *sigh*. Between that and the "thump" it does when nothing's in it (we were testing the electrical job dad did), it looks like I'm replacing it too. Thankfully my parents have said that I can use the gift money they had given me when we thought I would need more money to cose to purchase a new washer and dryer and any other major expense I have. I wish I had been able to do this on my own, but things haven't gone to plan and I am very grateful I have family that is able to help out if I need it.
They've fixed the roof and the patio. The patio looks really good with the extra pad to the side instead of out back. The guy that did my final walk through mentioned how he would have kept the mistakenly poured pad and I said, nope, didn't want it because it cut down on what I could use the grass area for. I would not have been happy with it. They're coming Monday to fix the cable issue as well as a few other things that have cropped up in the past 24 hours (like the dripping drain). However, I will not complain about the small stuff they have to fix. My neighbor came back from her closing to find 3 holes in her ceiling from a leaking pipe. They've made the repair but something stil isn't right as they continue to have a buzzing/humming noise.
As I've said before, I've been fostering kittens for an area rescue organization. I was warned that once people in the neighborhood found out what I did, I would start getting calls and knocks on the door regarding animals and even find animals abandoned on my door step. I knew that could happen eventually, I never figured it would be less than 24 hours after moving in. I walked down stairs to find a stray cat sitting on the mat at my sliding glass door. When I walked up to the door, the cat limped away and hid under the grill. I got some food and water, walked out and the cat immediately walked over to me. He/she (don't know yet) is extremely friendly, walked right up to me to be petted. However, he is extremely thin and the injuries appear to be old, porbably hit by a car. He attached the food I put down and this morning there was none of either left. So, today and tomorrow I need to find an organization, either my own or another in the area, that will help this cat. I feel that given it's sweat nature, that if it tests healthy, he's hightly adoptable, even with a few bald spots and a limp.
I'm getting a dog! Her name is Shelby. She's my best friend's dog, however, due to my godson now up and walking and their work schedule, she is not getting the attention she needs. My firend first appoached me with the intention of placing her in our adoption program. I told her flat out that she would not go up for adoption because she would be living with me. One of L's biggest fears last year when she was pregnant was how Shelby would react and adjust to the baby since she's been the only animal/child in the family for 7 years. I always told L that if it didn't work out, I would tak her, no questions, no judgements. They've struggled with the decision for a couple of months and have decided that it's in Shelby's best interests to come live with me. I've been looking at getting a dog for a couple of months now, not only for companionship, but also the added security feeling of having a dog in a house. When making the list of things I wanted, I pretty much said that if I could clone a less shedding version of Shelby, that's the type of dog I wanted - crate trained, house trained, loving, call, affectionate, walks well on a leash, walks with you off leash. So, she will be joining the famly shortly.
Ok, that's all for now, I'm off to Home Depot and Walmar to spend more money.
