A/N: I had a little too much fun with the prompt. :)
Just once, Neville asked the Room of Requirement for a way out.
This was back when he was still free to roam the halls, the air thick with the portentous silence of missing students. He had humbly requested a portkey, but the Room had ignored him.
Months later, when Neville discovered the portal leading to the portrait leading to the outside, he wondered why the room was only now giving him the opportunity to escape. Maybe it was simply so he could transport back some food - or maybe it was the Room’s way of showing him the importance of staying.
