He opened the door; smothering his laughter against his hand as he saw her, eyes closed, singing dreamily into her hairbrush. This was a side of Hermione he’d never seen!
"Do you feel the same, am I only dreeeaming
Or is this burning an eternal flaaaaaame?"
Her eyes opened, and her face went crimson.
"Can’t you knock?!"
"Supper’s ready… What are you singing?"
"It was popular with Muggles a few years before we started Hogwarts… never mind."
"Well, don’t let Mum hear it; we’ve enough problems with her love ballads."
She laughed; he beamed.
He loved it when she laughed.

Thirteen years ago, their friendship was severed by suspicion.
Twelve years ago, he was incarcerated. He’d tried to convince himself that he didn’t want to see him. (But if he had, he knew that was not possible.)
Now they were reunited, and they made their apologies without words. The candles’ flames cast playful shadows against the bedroom wall as they passionately, desperately, began compensating for 13 years lost. They held nothing back, as they knew better than to imagine that they had forever to do so.
