“Sir, please lay still,”

“Of all the nauseatingly patronizing things to say, you miserable little chit!”

“Sir, please! You could at least try helping yourself by not helping the poison spread!”

“I don’t need your help! All the facts that you’ve gleaned from books alone won’t help me now!”

“Immobilicorpus!”

Snape was bound helpless and in increasing pain as the venom started flowing through his veins. His mind was getting cloudy as the crushing pain intensified.

The sudden appearance of a knife in Granger’s hand suddenly made recalling the spell that would free him from bondage a very urgent undertaking.

He braced himself against the waves of Crucio-like pain attacking his leg with increasing intensity and the prick of the knife Granger was wielding like a madwoman.

Frozen, he watched in horror as she brought the knife closer to his wound.

Did she mean to take out the venom by bleeding him dry? How idiotic could a Gryffindor get?

Frantically, he searched his mind for the countercurse, only to find out in dismay that it was a verbal spell.

He was then distracted by his former student diligently scrounging around like a hog digging for truffles.

What in Merlin’s name?

He finally realized what she wanted to do when she triumphantly pulled up a dirty head of garlic from the ground. How she knew and found out was beyond him.

He watched as she carefully cleaned the head, peeled the bulb, and used the flat edge of the knife to crush the cloves. She immediately rubbed it into and around the fang marks as he watched in horror.

Gods above, it burned like fire!

Backing away ever so slowly, she lifted the binding spell and waited for him to react.

“Granger!”

“Sir, it’s better than dying without trying…”

“Find Longbottom!”

“Neville, Sir?”

“Close your mouth and do as I ordered!”

Sensing the urgency and trying to do everything in her power to help, she immediately apparated the two of them outside of Hogwarts. Dragging the weakened wizard beside her, she rapped on the doors leading to the Great Hall.

She was allowed entrance by an astounded Filch. Her hopes of a quiet homecoming were quashed the minute she saw the whole of Hogwarts at dinner.

“Welcome back to Hogwarts, then,” she muttered, her voice carrying over the unnatural hush.

“Professor Longbottom? Professor Snape needs your help!” she cheerfully called out.

A startled thunk greeted her announcement and she saw her former classmate blanch at the mention of Snape’s name.

Five years of being colleagues never helped Neville quell his fear of their former Potions professor after all.

She didn’t notice Ginny hurry to their side.

“Madame Weasley-Potter, I will not tolerate-”

“Shush now, I’m Mediwitch here, and you will do exactly as I say. What have you gotten yourself into this time?”

Snape winced at her tone of voice.

“Longbottom, You have a cross berry tree in your greenhouse?”

“Yes, ss-s-sir!”

“Mash the leaves, and give them to me!”
