Title: Said Softly
House: Ravenclaw
Word Count: 100
Challenge: Balance
Rating: G
Characters: Hermione Granger/Dean Thomas
Pairing: HG/DT
Summary: Dean visits Hermione in hospital.
A/N: Whew, I’ve missed writing here! This is the first in a series. I might merge all of these, and this idea, into a one-shot fic.

Her hands were cold as stone, but Dean twined his fingers with hers anyway. Her brown eyes, hazel in the firelight, caught his own darker ones, and she smiled.

“Hey, ‘Moine,” he said softly as he lowered himself into a chair at her bedside.

“Hi,” she whispered as she looked at their hands. Dean knew she loved just sitting with him, holding his hand, more than she loved anything else-even sex. They balanced each other, and seeing their fingers side by side, his brown and hers so pale, seemed to symbolize that.

Gently, he started to tell the memories.

Title: Distractions
House: Ravenclaw
Word Count: 100
Challenge: Balance
Rating: PG
Characters: Hermione Granger/Dean Thomas
Pairing: HG/DT
Summary: Dean remembers a first kiss.
A/N: This is the second in the series.

My Arithmancy homework is forgotten, the text sitting open, unread. Instead, I’m looking at her lips as she sucks on the bottom one, trying to balance the problem. The ‘o’ shape her mouth forms as she realizes what I’m doing wrong gives me thoughts I know I shouldn’t be having.

“Dean, you copied the whole thing wrong,” she says. I slap my forehead with my hand. She smiles and starts to turn back to her homework. Before she can, I lift my hand and tuck a finger under her chin. She looks at me in surprise, and I kiss her.

Title: The Sweet Escape
House: Ravenclaw
Word Count: 100
Challenge: Balance
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Hermione Granger/Dean Thomas
Pairing: HG/DT
Summary: A quick glimpse of intimacy.
A/N: This is the third in the series.

For someone who’s only had one girlfriend, Hermione thought, the words coming to her in flashes between the flickers of Dean’s tongue in her mouth, he’s damn good at this.

When their noses bumped together, they broke apart. Dean’s arm went around her waist. Everyone else was at lunch, so there was little risk of getting caught snogging. Her giggling stopped when Dean caught her gaze with his own intense one and lifted her onto his lap. She balanced herself with one leg on either side of his, and he pressed their hips together urgently as he kissed her again.

Title: Letter from Home
House: Ravenclaw
Word Count: 100
Challenge: Balance
Rating: G
Characters: Hermione Granger/Dean Thomas
Pairing: HG/DT
Summary: Hermione’s parents react to her news.
A/N: This is the fourth in a series.

Dearest daughter, the letter read, You have chosen a boy we would never have picked for you. Hermione wanted to roll her eyes, but Dean’s arm around her waist stopped her. A relationship should be a partnership of two people, two balanced people, who can share experiences and relate to one another. How much can you and this boy have to talk about? He is black!

She’d never expected racism from her own parents. With a frustrated sound, she crumpled the paper and threw it into the fire. "I'm sorry," she cried, and he held her without speaking.

Title: Be Without You
House: Ravenclaw
Word Count: 100
Challenge: Balance
Rating: G
Characters: Hermione Granger/Dean Thomas
Pairing: HG/DT
Summary: Dean doesn't get to say goodbye.
A/N: This is the fifth and last in the series.

Dean’s voice falters as she grips his hand tighter. There are tears on Hermione’s face; whether from the memories he’s telling her about, or the pain of the cancer, he can’t say. He lowers himself from the chair to balance on the bedside, leaning tenderly over her.

She reaches up to touch his cheek and run a finger over the small scar on his jawline. “I love you,” she says, before wincing. It’s pain, then. Hot tears leak from the corners of her eyes. He kisses her-for the last time, because when he draws away, her eyes are closed.
