“Libra. Fanged hexagators mate under Libra.”
Her hair absorbed starlight like a moonflower. Firenze had never before encountered a human sitting cross-legged in wet grass in the dead of night, but until his exile he’d rarely left the forest. Perhaps this was common behavior.
“Libra is a constellation. Nothing more than a collection of stars.”
“And you’re nothing more than a talking horse.” Luna replied dreamily, abruptly. Something hot expanded in Firenze’s chest. It surprised him to discover it was embarrassment.
“I apologize for patronizing.”
“She represents balance, justice. Equality. Apology accepted.”
Firenze gazed skyward, inexplicably both humbled and proud.
